Update 8 - Added new style with a 24px TaskbarUpdate 7 - Font change from Arial to SegoeUI
Update 6 - Changed the color of the taskbar text to white
Update 5 - Some people have requested that I include both the old version of Lucent (without borders) along with the new one (with borders). The old version of Lucent still has and will always have the gap at the top of web browsers because there's no way to fix that.
Update 4 - Borders are now lined up correctly for all browsers
Update 3 - Now with alternative images for the navigation buttons ( see them in the preview )
Update 2 - The small taskbar background is now fixed
Update 1 - Theme now displays under installed themes correctly as " Lucent"
My version of a minimalistic Windows 7 Style
This visual style is displayed best with the "Frost" color at 0% transparency as it appears in the preview

Instructions
1. Patch your system files using the Universal Theme Patcher
2. Install the theme
Copy the "Lucent" folder and Lucent.msstyle to your themes directory: "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\" (the path may vary depending on your OS)
3. Change the windows navigation buttons
Use Windows 7 Navigation Buttons Customizer by Kishan-Bagaria to change the navigation buttons; images are available in the folder "Lucent\Images"

You can use UxStyle Core (uxstyle.com/ ) as alternative to universal theme patcher.
The difference is, UxStyle doesn't modify Windows *.dll files (as universal theme patcher do) and keep your system clean.

Gone through lots of things over the years trying to change how Win 7 looks and feels. Β I think this is the first one that I like soo much (few problems though) thank I'm gonna have to set it up on every computer in the house.

OMG awesome I always wanted borderless windows... Thanks man! I just have one question: is it possible to change the font color on the taskbar? I think its grey by default, but its difficult to read with dark wallpapers. Same is the case with window titlebars, since the theme makes them transparent. The original windows 7 aero theme has a white dropshadow behind the text which makes it easier to read.

What bothers me, is that it looks REALLY nice, but the skin doesn't really work with Google Chrome or Firefox, there are offsets.
Which Browser are you using and how does it look like?

I followed your instructions, and I've had different custom themes before, but your theme only seems to be half working? All it did was make the windows translucent looking which is something the basic standard theme does.
What should I do? I'm running on Windows 7 64bit

I think you need to troubleshoot your aero effects. Right click your desktop and go to personalize, at the bottom it should show the "troubleshoot problems with transparency and other aero effects"

Yeah, the top of the windows are black for me and it looks really weird. Is that something we can fix? I love this theme so much but it doesn't look even close on my machine

Amazing theme, one slight problem though. I got it to work perfectly, but I accidentally switched to windows classic theme, and now when i switch back to Lucent, all the frames and buttons etc are still windows classic. In fact none of the custom themes on deviant art work. Any ideas? Thanks

To fix this my friend right click on desktop and click properties.
Now click on Windows 7 Theme under the Aero themes and wait.
After this click on the theme u want to apply and enjoy...

I don't know what the problem could be. If the themes are showing up in your Installed Themes section of the personalization folder then it should work properly. My only guess would be that your .theme file is not in the correct location. Make sure you have the Lucent.theme file inΒ \Windows\Resources\Themes and the folder containing the .msstyles called Lucent inΒ \Windows\Resources\Themes. When you first download the file and open it you will see that everything is packed into one folder called Lucent. If you open that folder you will see the .theme files and the Lucent folder separated. Copy the .theme files inΒ \Windows\Resources\Themes and then the Lucent folder inΒ \Windows\Resources\Themes.

A very, very nice design, I'm searching since a long time for a borderless theme. But it lacks a bit of contrast, which makes items, that dont have a focus/hover effect on them, difficult to read. Also someΒ programs like Keepass 2 and Chrome seem to have some serious problems with the theme.

My display preferences are different from yours so my hover effects appeared normal for me when I made the theme. As for the defects on certain windows I don't know how to fix that.

would be great to add different background color for active icons on the taskbar. Or maybe a dark underline under the icon, just so u can tell which programs are opened, as right now it's difficult to tell if using image which has bright colors.

I have patched all 3 files, extracted the theme folder but I click on the theme it looks nothing like above. Why?

I don't think you pasted the folder the correct way. Once you download the file, open the "Lucent" folder and paste everything in the "Themes" folder.Β
Everything highlighted in red goes in the Theme folder.

You're right. Instead of the highlighted folders in the attachment above I copy/pasted the parent folder.
It looks nice with the small exception of Firefox not looking quite proper but great job overall.

I use the NVIDIA graphics card settings so our settings might not match if you have a different graphics card. Color Channel: All Colors Β Brightness: 42 Β Contrast: 0 Β Gamma: 1.34
