This is my entry for the contest being held over at with the theme "New Beginnings." You can find the contest here: January 2015-New BeginningsTHE CHALLENGE:
The theme is new beginnings, interpret that however you want! Be sure it features a cetacean!
FORMS ACCEPTED:
Visual Art- Traditional Art, Digital, and Photography
Sculptures and crafts
Literature-Poems, stories, essays, ect.
Or a combination of the two a combination,
or anything else you can think of!
RULES:
-The judges are private and pieces will be shown anonymously, but if you somehow find them online and are caught soliciting, you will be disqualified
-Your description must mention that it was created for the challenge, and explain how it fits it
-new or old pieces accepted
-You can submit as many pieces as you want! You could do one in a team and one on your own, multiple on your own, ect.
-Your piece can feature other animals and other marine mammals, but a monodontidae member must be the obvious focus.
-You must be a member to enter
PRIZES (Please donate if possible!):
1st place
-100 points courtesy of me
-A feature of your work [the piece for the contest + 4 oth

I legitimately debated calling this Big Bang II but I settled on the title it currently has, I think it suites it better. This is a depiction of the beginning of everything. A new beginning for life and creation. It seemed appropriate to have a cetacean as the mother of it all since they're such gentle yet giant creatures who seem ultimately timeless to me.

Check out this tutorial to see how I figured out the space section: . It didn't entirely work for me because the image size was just too massive, but it helped me figure out how to go about making what I ended up with. It's an awesome, simple tutorial.

This was made in Photoshop CS6 using a mousepad.
