This is her character Kazuo Kurihara; an American born Japanese young man. He smokes quite a bit and loves to read. Onigawa gave me some free reign over creating this image (thanks ;D) so I drew him as an Onnagata (young male that play as a female in kabuki theatre).

I imagine him to be reading La Belle et la Bete and in the midst of the words he wanders within his own imagination and whitness the story of the beauty and the beast unfold. He sees himself as the beauty and his beast is unknown but gahstly. However, he finds that it twists as the story continues; he sees himself as the beast internally , because he admits to his flaws and cannot get past them. Leading him to belive the unnamed love of a gortesque nature is the true beauty, for he can see divinity in anything and understands what it means to love in its truest sense.

I imagine Kazuo to be a pretty solitary person who is fun to hang with, but might be too shy to get to know anyone past being an aquaintence ( I may be wrong though). The flowers are Carolina Rose and Heather. They symbolize the danger of love as well as admiration,beauty and solitude.

This was mainly inspired by Philip Glass's La Belle et la Bete album. An opera in french. Its awesome.

Had a good time drawing this peice with all the different patterns ( though my back and hand says other wise). It's too bad I won't be able to keep it in my sketchbook.
