Mostly, this was a Copics practice. I used really small, sketch paper, so the result isn't amazing, but for a work that only took me an hour or two, I think it's pretty good It was also my first time using Copics. I attempted markcrilley 's white gouache technique to add more intense highlights. It didn't turn out great because the brush I had was kinda frayed and had coarse bristles, but otherwise, I think it was a success. Thank you Mark Crilley for being an inspiration to me!

To be honest, I've been feeling kinda sick lately, and even sitting up to draw has been a little difficult. I started a new medication in an attempt to combat my psoriasis (a genetic skin disease), but my body hasn't gotten used to it yet, and at times, I feel ill randomly. *crosses fingers* Here's to hoping it improves in the long run!

This is a character from my manga web comic Callous, Lord Ryukou's wife, Maya. For a bit of background information... She's a wealthy merchant's daughter. Her marriage to Lord Ryukou was purely for political reasons. Her family benefited because, through her, they gained the prestige of her title. And Lord Ryukou benefited because (since he was a young and less-than-well-known lord, newly come to power) he needed support. Maya's father was an influential merchant, and their connection (and the money of Maya's family) would provide Lord Ryukou with more power than he already had. Beyond the advantageous connection brought on by their union, there is little else substance to their marriage. It's kind of sad, but they have no feelings for each other, save perhaps a small amount of disdain brought on by years of disappointment. She's angry with him because he neglects to pay her much attention. And he resents her because she has yet to bear him any sons. *sigh* They're an anomaly... XD

Anyway, I wanted to draw her because, quite frankly, I hardly ever draw females, it seems, and I've never drawn her before, although I had a pretty good image of her in my head. I had a lot of fun drawing her makeup. It was based a little off of the traditional geisha makeup.

I attempted to write her name in Hiragana, buuuuuuut.... The struggle >.<
