I know, I couldn't finish it in time for the job interview. I wanted to simulate the brushed golden material, but it took too long to render, so I changed it to something simple in the meantime.

Get yourself a version of Maya (I believe there's a free version on their website [link] ), and play with it a while (it's not very intuitive in the beginning: I recommend starting with polygons, not NURBS)!
There are many tutorials on the net too.
