A Native American hunter on horseback turns and draws his bow with an arrow knocked and ready attempting to aim at the massive buffalo that thunders out of the mists behind them.
The hunter wears only leggings but has hand print shaped war paint decorating his body. He grips his horse tightly with his legs as he twists in the saddle to loose and arrow at the great bison.
His appaloosa coated horse desperately gallops away from the great charging beast. It kicks up rocks and dirt as it tries to evade the pursuing beast.
The buffalo seems to be a creature born of the fog. As it stampedes towards the man and horse, it lowers its head for the charge and breathes and angry steam.
I've been experimenting with a leopard appaloosa coat for my equestrian themed art. I wanted to see how well it stood out against a dark and moody foggy backdrop. I liked the dramatic look so much that I decided that I wanted a REALLY intense scene. So, I created this where it was not entirely clear which was the hunter and which the hunted.

Well done, great scene! I like what you said about the "...where it was not entirely clear which was the hunter and which the hunted". It gives this effect indeed.
About the realism, I may be mistaken, but I think the bow looks like a recurved one, while the most common among Native Americans where the flat ones.

Amazing work! Although the horse seems a little off for an Appaloosa. While the markings are "spot on" (forgive the pun), the Appaloosa breed is not known for feathers on the lower legs nor for long or thick mane and tail hair. I realize this is supposed to be from a different era, long past- and I also realize that at this period in time there was no established Appaloosa breed, but the 'Indian ponies' that became the foundation stock of the Appaloosa generally had most of the same traits as the breed they later established.
The original official Appaloosa breed is known for sparse manes and tails, striped hooves, mottled skin around the eyes, muzzle and genital area, and for white around the pupil. The modern Appy has been crossed with other breeds (such as the Thoroughbred) and some of these traits are disappearing.

I love this! I only have one criticism. When the braves would go out, they would braid their hair. In case you die in battle, you braid your hair. I"m not sure why, my father didn't say. Other than that, I love this piece <3

The horse has kinda a weird Position, completly focusing on somethign else. would have expected drawnback ears or at least facing the danger.

But the hunter's hair kills the element of speed compared with the horse. It makes him look like he's standing still.

..."draws his bow with an arrow knocked and ready"... Should have read "nocked" = fit an arrow to the bowstring to ready it for shooting. Hehehehe, ya just put all the bowhunters on the warpath! Was wondering why the Native American hunter did not paint his horse as well? Well done.
