I bet if you follow the dog around you'll probably find which house it lives at. My cousin's cat used to do the same thing. Wander from house to house... Getting fed because he always looked scraggly and under-nourished. Little did anyone in the neighborhood know that he worked out a routine on where to get fed and when.
