Well done. This picture speaks of the fall of mankind when they ate the "fruit of the knowledge of good and evil".

Yay, More questions:

1) Wasn't there supposed to be 2 major trees in the Garden: The Tree of Knowledge and The Tree of Life?

2) Since Man holds the Fruit of Knowledge, does that mean the Angels hold the Fruit of Life?

Yes, I have watched Evangelion. Why do you ask? XP

These paintings would make a really good calendar also. It is so nice to see Christian art acknowledged in a Daily Deviation. It's just a shame that so much prejudice keeps your work from getting more recognition here at DA.

great question... He is in the shadows of the tree in the Eden scene. The posted image is too small to see him. Sorry!

what inspired the shape for the fruit?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

eikonik In reply to wheaman [2008-04-01 02:13:06 +0000 UTC]

The shape came partly from a uniqueness factor - I figured the tree was one of a kind and so its fruit would not look like anything else. The other part mimics the characteristics of the tree trunk, which is twisted purposefully, symbolizing the knowledge of good intermixed with evil - hence, the knowledge of good and evil.

Beautiful.

Have you heard about the Creation Museum? It's in Kentucky and it's on the Bible and Creationist's view of how the world was formed. It's really fun!

I hope you'll get a chance! It's worth it!
And when you do, look around you real close when you get to the exhibit of the Garden of Eden. You'll find something there...

Why is there a woman growing out of Adam's shoulder? Shouldn't she be coming out of a rib?

Except, That's not an apple (or any I've seen!)

Art in the middle ages gave us the idea that Adam and Eve ate from an "apple tree" but scripture only indicates that it was a fruit tree. It seems to me that Eikonik has cleverly "made up" a fruit. Many folks speculate that the fruit was a unique fruit from a unique tree that did not occur except in the "Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil." Others think that if it was a generic and modern tree, it was more likely a fig or pomegranate tree. Still, it is possible that it was an apple tree -- all things are possible with God. We just have no reason to assume that it was.

I'm not too bothered by the assumption or even the comic reference to apples being that fruit; I just appreciate it when people recognise that it wasn't necessarily one. It's rooted (forgive the pun) in a much deeper and necessary point: We need to pay attention to what doctrines and teachings are actually in scripture, and which have been brought about by the traditions of men. True, it is not dire to our theology what kind of fruit Adam and Eve ate; but there are many other things that go on in the visible church which have no grounding in scripture.

The "sinner's prayer" for instance -- I was once asked by a girl where it was found in the Bible, and she did not believe me when I told her that it was not anywhere there.

I like that you have made the Garden of Eden seem seperated from the world, it really gives great effect to the story. And I also like how bold the lines are.
