Description watercolour

Do you think the little witch succeeded in summoning the sprite, or do you think the sprite just popped out to see what was happening? Do you think the witch has even noticed the sprite is there yet?

Thanks to ^SylwiaTelari for encouraging me to paint a witch consulting her grimoire (and to put an owl in!) and thanks to ~Sieskja for inspiring me to try painting the sky in something other than blue!

This painting is an entry for #GrimGloomTale 's Owl contest: [link]

This is the fourth version of this piece, and I would really like to do another one and hope it would turn out even better, but it's very time consuming and I have essays to write! The progression of unfinished previous pieces can be seen here:

Beautiful and elegant, I especially like the little bird nested in her hair and two imps peeking from behind the tree Β

My pleasure!!
And thank you as well I'm working now on Little Mermaid - it's the most detailed work from all of the series I think... ;D There will be also Rapunzel, Cinderella and Alice.

When I saw the deviations in my box I was attracted by that drawing!! Like some other people, I think it's one of your best one!!
I'm glad my kind of sky was useful to you! With the rocks and the water, it's that I love in your painting! It gives a misty atmosphere to the scene.

Moreover, I admire you for your patience Oo. I would have been unable to start a drawing again more than twice!
This one is the best by far (: Even if the one with the dark blue sky was nice, too!

Thanks so much Sieskja for such a thoughtful comment, I appreciate it a lot I'm really glad you like the drawing, it's one of my favourites of the ones I've finished I am having to work on my patience a lot haha, but it's improved very much since last year!

This is by far one of my favorites! I wonder how you did the sky like that? it looks really good! I can really see your own style in this one, and that you've been patient and taken the time to do heaps of detail- well done!
I especially love: the detail in the owl, the grey sky, the little witch's hair and... and... I love it all!!

Hope the ESSAYS are going well (not that i can talk) <3

Yay! Thanks Chicky Check out this piece of ~Sieskja 's [link] - she inspired me to try something different for the sky and I like how it turned out. Happy that you like all the detail - it got more and more detailed with every version - if I'd done another one it probably would have been even more detailed! I'm glad you like the witch's hair, I totally didn't know what to do with it for the first few attempts, but I'm really happy with how it turned out eventually.

Haha essays? what essays? I'm just going out to cook something fancy for tea to avoid having to write essays ...

This is beautiful. I like the warm greens and the faded yellows in the background because they exude serenity. The arrangement of your characters is also well suited with your placement of trees. Overall this painting is full of life and character without looking cluttered.

Thanks so much, I appreciate such a thoughtful comment it took me a few goes to get the tree placement figured out! It came out a lot more serene than I expected, and I'm glad it did

I'll write this again, this is your best work so far And writting it again means that you make a very nice progress. There's a high place ahead, I can smell it in the water, I can smell it in the air, etc etc. The thing I love the msot about this is the environment. It's pretty fabulous - and you've done a great job with the sky, bless ~Sieskja . This is a very early morning sky, so I assume the witch didn't want to summon a bad demon. And she doesn't look bad, smiling that way and looking kind of amused while starring upon the witch. I'd probably add some details to the drawing in the grimoire, that sort of printing look. And the grass - and the river. Awesome

erinclaireb In reply to STelari [2012-08-06 03:42:36 +0000 UTC]

Yay! So so happy that you think this is my best again I'm really pretty happy with this one, I feel like it's coming along Funnily enough, I tried it at A4 size three times before finally trying a larger A3 and it was so much easier and better this way - so thanks for encouraging me to try larger paper sizes! I can't wait to start another painting - finishing one that I actually quite like is such encouragement
I'm glad you said it looks like early morning - honestly (secret confession) I was aiming to paint and evening sky but it just didn't turn out that way! But I prefer her to be summoning a good spirit, so it's better this way
I really enjoy painting books I've decided, so perhaps another grimoire is in order, a larger one with more room for some interesting details. I think it would be nice if the witch had added her own annotations to the recipe, and perhaps some sketches of the ingredients...
As always, thanks so much for your thoughtful and encouraging comment yay!
