Description I wasn't sure if you guys have seen my very first keyblade made out of cardboard, duct tape, and spray paint, so here's a comparison between that and my new kingdom key. It's been almost 2 years since I started and I've learned quite a bit since then.

If I can do this, so can you.

in the future, 3D printers will make and paint our own cosplay keyblades.

Yeah, but I'd still like making them by hand.

So... do you ever plan on making cosplay keyblades and selling them on ebay or whatever?

I say this is probably one of the best Kingdom Keys I've seen in a long time. Β I know the value of material cost and long hours trying to make it as accurate as possible, I'm kinda OCD about accurate props. Β I made Ven's Wayward Wind keyblade and really wanted it to be as accurate as the game version. Β Might have to touch it up those since its been a few years.

Thanks! I'm trying to show everyone it only takes hard work, a lot of thought, and the right tools to do this stuff. I'm just lucky enough to stumble across this art form while i'm young.

This is awesome! I've been getting back into prop making lately ,and it very mush reminds me of when I made buster sword out of styrofoam and 1x4's.

I'd say you've learned quite a bit!! It's amazing what you can achieve if you just try. That in mind, just think of what you'll be able to do by the end of this year.

You've gotten a lot better at the attention to details now too! You've come so far, keep doing this. You're young and it can take you far!

Man it would be great if I could become proficient in casting next while improving my detail work.

Thanks!

You never know! I'd say go for it! Expand your knowledge. And if/when you screw up, try again!! Then do it again even though you know you can do it.

I did some reading/research on molding and casting a while ago. Molding is easy, it's the casting part that's difficult. But it's always good to push your skill limit and see what happens.

Yeah, i just wish the materials were cheaper. I actually did find a site that sold 2 gallons of rubber for $114, where everywhere else has 1 gallon for around that much.Β www.uscomposites.com/moldmakin…

Holy hell! Lol. Ah yeah, the life of a crafter... And people wonder why some things can be so expensive, not only do we have to make up for the materials, but you got to add time, energy, blood, tears, part of your broken soul... hahahaha. Well maybe not that morbid but materials alone are always the most expensive. There is only ever certain people I'd ever allow to pay me back for just materials. Oi, that's expensive. I do wish you the best of luck with molding and casting! There's a lot you can do with that especially if you make something that a lot of people want to have!

You're welcome, on average how much do you spend on materials and time?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

finaformsora In reply to chrisruberte [2014-01-10 03:34:00 +0000 UTC]

For a keyblade like the kingdom key or young xehanorts keyblade: about $75 for wood; $6 a can for glue, primer, and paint unless it's a special type of paint; about $60 for sandpaper/dremel bits/chain/fasteners/extra stuff; $15 for bondo. Optional $40 for clear resin. So around $180 without adding in electricity or the resin.Β

Time depends on the prop, but usually more than 28 hours.Β

That's kinda why props tend to cost so much, because of the material cost
