Description This was very much one of the "and-what-if-I-do-this" manips. Had a lot of fun making it.

EDIT: Finally figured a way to make the ornaments on the coat stay in place - earlier they kept shifting strangely when I reduced the image's size.

Really lovely manip! Caught my eye immediately. Can I ask how you edited the hair? Like did you cut out the original image and then add in some strands on your own by painting?

Also how did you do the fire effect? Its really clean, like when I change the blending mode when experimenting with fire stock images, there is a lot of residual glow around the main fire, which when I try to erase make it appear very unnatural...

About the hair - that's exactly what I did. I usually cut out the hair very roughly - it's easier and quicker for me to simply paint in the parts I missed from the original image than cut out every strand - that would be too time consuming.

The trick with the fire is using photos with completely black background. I usually use cgtextures.com for that - then you just need to change blending mode to Screen/Lighten. Their photos usually don't have any residual glow - some do, but even then you only need to erase the edges of the image for it to look natural.
