Kayde lay in bed , he was exhausted , but he couldn't sleep , couldn't rest , his mind wouldn't stop churning over the memories of the past. Why had been been brought into this world ? Was it just to be his father's clone , another evil overlord to carry on that terrible legacy?
" I loved you father..." He found himself whispering to the darkness ." Why did you do this to me. "
Thinking of home made him desperately sad , he had missed out on so much life, so much freedom . He had come to realise that he could never have saved those people , they would have died no matter what he'd done . Sehndra had seen the truth of it and he had called her cold , but he was the cold one , he'd ignored her tears as she'd tried to comfort him .
Her touch had reminded him that he was a man with desires like any other , and what man wouldn't desire a tempting little minx like the Princess of Carapasia.The way she had carressed his body had almost more than he'd been able to stand and he ached to complete whwt they had started . It dawned on him that she had been trying to close the gulf between them when she'd wiped away his tears . She had seen him as someone in pain , not as a man who would violate and use her . She was simply a foolish and innocent girl who tended to say the first thing that popped into her head .
He put all thoughts of his wicked father to the back of his mind , and instead concentrated on the memories of that sweetly curvacious body pressed up against him . Dreams of kissing her perfect , pouty lips filled his head as he driffted off to sleep.

A New Plan

He only slept for a few hours , but when he opened his eyes he felt refreshed , ready to face yet another day of exile in the wastelands . Even after all these years he still hated having a cold shower , although there was power there was no way to heat the water exept to boil it on the stove .
After blasting himself clean with icy water he decided to get some breakfast , he wondered if Sehndra had told the others of his rather foolish plan to leave . He had come to realise that it had been a very stupid idea , but he had been so panicked about his father searching for him that he had lost all sense of proportion on the situation. But something had to be done , he didn't want his friends to be captured because of him , but there were even bigger problems . His father had set his sights on capturing Carapasia and there was no way in hell he would allow that to happen . He needed a new plan and this time he would ask Sehndra for assistance.
All was quiet as he made his way to the kitchen , as usual the aroma of boiling soup filled the air . He was so sick of it, but there literaly was nothing else, it was either eat it or starve .
After the last few days it felt unusually quiet , probably because Sehndra wasn't sceaming and shouting and tearing the place to bits . He smiled as he remembered their first fight , the speed of her attack had taken him by surprise , but it had been a really fun confrontation . She could never have beaten him of course , his skill level was way beyond hers . He had, after all , been trained by his father to deal death in as few moves as possible .
" Your soup , Sir Kayde . " Amber greeted him with a cheery smile as she passed him a steaming mug .
" Shut up." He grinned at her, and took a quick swig of soup . " So where's our Princess this morning ? " He asked casually .
" I haven't seen her yet , she's probably still asleep , the poor little thing ."
" You feel sorry for her ? " He was surprised , Amber had been forced to leave her home , Sehndra had made a concious choice , although her situation was almost as desperate .
" I've never seen a girl with such sad eyes , it's as if she's staring into the face of death " Amber looked pensive for a moment.
" That comes pretty close, " he murmered , " she was going to marry...Ludo Crefax . " He had been about to say " my father " , but stopped himself just in time .
Amber gasped in horror , she knew what had befallen Orion's daughter and her blood chilled at the thought of it . " I know she's a fighter and everything , but she's such a sweet girl , she doesn't know anything about men like Crefax . He'd destroy her ! " Her hand tightened aound her mug and she trembled at the very thought of it .
At that moment Lucas arrived , he was cold and hungry from standing guard outside all night .
" Hey bro ! " He greeted Kayde , punching him on the arm . The two of them were very close. Kayde had been like a father and older brother to him .
" If you're here then who's outside ?" Kayde asked , retuning the punch .
" Gerard said he'd cover for me , but the guy's so short sighted the whole Carapasian fleet could fly over us and he'd never see it ! " Lucas smirked wickedly .
" Yeah right! " Kayde laughed , but he knew it was mean, Gerard had escaped a Carapasian firing squad .
" So it's gonna be pretty quiet round here again now that girl's gone . If you ask me she was way too loud ." Lucas continued , pouring himself a drink .
" What...what are you talking about ?" Kayde felt his blood turn to ice , he suddenly felt sick .
" The Princess , i saw her leave early this morning in that wreck of a skimmer Orion's been fixing up . "
" WHAT!! " Kayde grabbed the boy and shook him angrily . " Why the hell didn't you get a message to me ! What in the shiting hell does she think she's playing at !! "
" I'm sorry ! " Lucas yelped . " Do you think she's gonna give us away!? " He started to tremble he was happy living in the shelter among his friends , he never wanted to go back to the Wynterlands , to the horrors of his past .
" No she won't give us away . " He assured the boy . " She's not like that ."
" Why would she just run away like that , i thought you and she were making progress ? " Amber couldn't help feeling very concerned .
" I'm an idiot!! " Kayde swung his fist at the wall , denting it severely . " Shit!! It's my fault i told her to go ! I didn't mean it , but she's so used to following orders...shit! " He left out the part about how she had tried unsuccessfully to seduce him . " She's gonna try and take on Crefax alone ."

Resolution

Thoughts of what his father would do to her filled him with fear and dread , but it was then that her words came floating back to him . "He's still a threat to you " . Why did his father consider him a threat ?
" He trained me to be just like him !" He blurted out the words without thinking , his outburst surprising Amber and her son .
" Who ? " They wanted to know . "What are you talking about !? " In all they're time together Kayde had never once spoken of his reasons for being in the wastelands , they had just assumed that he was too traumatised to talk about it .
" I'm sorry..i couldn't tell you , i couldn't tell anyone . " He had a very sad and solemn expression on his face . " I thought if i did then you'd hate me and never trust me again . "
" Just spit it out! " Amber told him, whatever it was , it could be dealt with .
" You see..the reason i'm out here is cuz Ludo Crefax turned me out of his home...i'm his son, Arcadian . " He couldn't hide his shame , it was written all over his handsome face . " He trained me to be just like him , to have all his fighting skills and knowlege , to be an evil....killer . "
Amber could tell that there was more to the story , but she wasn't going to press the matter any further. It was obvious that he had suffered so much at the hands of his father .
" No. " She replied firmly . " He may have taught you to fight , but no-one who truly knows you would dare to call you evil . In fact bringing you into this world is the only good deed that bastard has ever done."
" You mean...you don't hate me?" His hazel eyes were misty and wide with disbelief .
" Idiot ! " Lucas punched him in the arm again . " Arcadian , huh ? That's totally lame . " He gave his best friend a big grin . " So what are you gonna do ? You're not gonna go after that girl are you ? "
Kayde thought about it for a moment , he had been going to confront his father anyway , but now saving Sehndra from her bridal fate took priority .
" You know , maybe i am . " He answered desisively . " I can't keep hiding out here like a coward . I think it's time to show that bastard exactly what he trained me for !! "
