Well,

What a lovely surprise this morning to find you - the queen of cats (of all sizes, of course) - write a critique on my rather amateur capture of a house cat!

Thank you so much, I very much appreciate your analysis and in particular your information on the sharpness. Not that it is any reasonable excuse, but I was actually shooting flowers (this was shot with my Tamron macro lens) when the cat appeared on the scene. And trust me - flowers move much slower

That's what separates me from the true pro, he/she would have known in a heartbeat what setting to change in order to get a sharper image. Personally I am just now adjusting the ISO for varying shooting conditions as I am a little (too) concerned about the increase in noise that it generates when overdone. On the Canon T1i (500D) it is also an inconveniently located special button that needs to be pushed before the wheel can change the ISO.

Anyway, your critique is right on and very much appreciated, in particular because shooting animals is only a side-project for me,

Ingo

I'm glad my critique was good. I'm not great at writing them really
Ahh see that makes more sense now, you weren't quite prepared as the cat was a surprise. Your settings were good for flowers though
Oh I wouldn't say I'm pro just yet, I've been known to forget to change my settings too and came out with horrible photos
Well with my old Canon 400d the absolute highest I would go with ISO was 400 and it didn't produce much noise. With my 5D I can go higher and it's still OK but I hate going too high as well. 200 ISO would still be OK too, it wouldn't produce noise really but to experiment take the same photo with different ISO's and see the results

Well I do like the animals, it's good to shoot different things. I know my gallery is so full of animals, I need to shoot/post different things too

You're welcome too

~Dani

Once again, thanks a lot. Yeah, the 5D is awesome, very little noise on even 1600.

I know it's crazy that I could get away with a high ISO like that. Some of my baby tiger photos are a bit noisy as I was forced to use ISO 3000 as it was so dark

May I use this cat for its posture, for a drawing?

I'm drawing one of my self-created cats, and I'm searching for the right pictures.

This cat face looks human too me. Great shot cats are so from a different place. They know how to be in the moment.
