Description The composition in this one really bothers me. It makes no sense at all if we go along with the rules, but I somehow like this mess. The left side is meant to show that the place is full of people, and placing the man on the right side was intended to show that he's somehow different, excluded.

I'm not sure if it worked well (or, worked in any way, at least).

Any opinions?

The composition is well made in my opinion and the choice to use the square crop even more.
Maybe without that trash bin (?) in front of the man, the composition would have been lighter because of the presence of the white street behind it.
The people on the left give the idea of the multitude of people even if the the person on the foreground covers the rest of them a little too much and it's too black thus it's losing the definition of the details.
The depth of field is superb, since the background is blurry just about to separate the main subject from behind, and quite detailed so that you can understand that there is a street there.
The man "acts" really well, giving the real impression of exclusion from the surroundings. It seems to me that his facial expression is asking you (the photographer) to take him out of that chaos even though he got used to that.
I'm wondering how far where you from him when you took it.
I love the shades on the folds of his coat: they are so plastic!

Overall it's a great shot, I love when in a street photo the main subject is aware that someone is taking a picture of him.
Good job!

(I wanted to write a Critique but I don't have a subscription :-p)

The thing in front of him is his bagle stand. However, I didn't want it to be another 'food stand shot'. Would be hard to take it out of the frame keeping the perspective of the street.

Looking at the focal length (110mm) with f4.0 I suppose it was about 8-10 meters, as the depth of field is quite narrow and the angle of view is big (for a tele lens).

I felt quite uncomfortable being noticed, yet it's not bad if the whole street isn't staring at me. And that's a disadvantage of Canon L lens (white 70-200...), and that's what I hate about it. But I believe I need to get used to take pictures of people totally aware of my presence if I want to do journalistic photos.

Thanks for your comment-critique, I really appreciate it!
