Very beautiful work. Do you sell. Do you forge your own steel and do your own sheaths.  Nice lines and great sheath;

 Thank You Stan

Hello. Thanks, and sorry for late reply. All my pattern welded steel is self made. I use few industrial quality steels which I then handforge into pattern welded billets, and yet forge them into blades, decorative items etc. Few times I have also made the iron from bog ore. All parts in my products are self made by me. Including sheaths and handles ofcourse. I also make products as commission. If you are more interested about commission, please send me note or email.

I've seen some finish knives here and there, and the "diamond" geometry seem to be a common detail. I think it looks Amazing!!

I belive this is the finest knife I've ever seen, and I've seen alot of knives. The shape of the handle and the blade is so very harmonic somehow. Really 10/10 points

You know I keep coming back looking at this one. The steel beautiful job and no forging flaws/cold shuts I can see maybe just the hint of one near the bolster. Shape elegant very nice. Grind I like the style but could be a little crisper (use a hard back block when you polish) but that is being 'nit-picky'. The handle. . . .superlative, absolutely love it. The Sheath, I'm not much of a leather worker but it makes me want to try it and afraid of it at the same time, beautiful. As a whole it's one of the half dozen pieces I've seen that I personally would want in my own collection in the last thirty years, not that I couldn't come very close to it but it would still be just a 'copy' not your original. . .Bravo

Curious as to what that blade looks like in the sheath. How much of the handle actually sticks out?

The last oak piece and bit of bark sticks out from the sheath.

Fiery-Mox [2012-07-05 22:52:43 +0000 UTC]

Was this ground with a secondary bevel? Looks a little like it. Also - I assume this was hand forged, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jarkko1 In reply to Fiery-Mox [2012-07-10 06:13:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it is hand forged. In pattern welding the airhammer helped. It is hollow grind with really small secondary bevel, that is made just with diamond whetstone.

Fiery-Mox In reply to jarkko1 [2012-07-10 06:32:48 +0000 UTC]

I guess a secondary bevel makes the steel look better, as you're not scraping it up.

Thanks. How is that viking knife, have you used it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

carlviking In reply to jarkko1 [2012-07-10 11:36:21 +0000 UTC]

Ho yes, I used it during 5 reenactements weekends since then.
I used it to carve wood, tu cut meat, leather, rope... and it excelled with any of these

I got many remarks on how good it look, and it became the troup's official knife for slicing smoked ham !

I just have a problem with one on the rings opening from time to time...
I think I will weld it close soon to avoid loosing it ...

But, for now, I didn't regret my purchase one second !

Everybody, buy stuff from Jarkko : they are awesome !!!

jarkko1 In reply to carlviking [2012-07-12 08:20:15 +0000 UTC]

Nice to hear that it works well. Hmm, in my own knife there have been not problem with those rings. That brass wire that I used in your knife, to make those rings, must have been somehow softer than that I used in my own. That's sad, but welding surely helps, or then replace those with steel rings or rivetted brass ones.
