I understand your opinion and agree with the most of points.
The clean looking cap was indeed intended. I thought if the creature has so much details (face texture especially) brings a clean cap a little quiet in the chaos. But I think you are also right if you say the cap looks too clean.
The chest is a bit too rough by contrast with the face. I agree absolutely!
About the reddish ear: I think it's matter of taste. I know the interaction between ear + blood + light [link] of course. But I mean this is a blue-skinned, four-eyed monster who plays tennis... that is fantasy, I think I can disregard the realism... a little bit.
