Description I'm a bit late with this like always.

The challenge this week was:
"This week, you're designing couture pieces inspired by drinks. Your pieces ought to be like the drink in every aspect, not just colours, as some people might do. For example, if you had chocolate milkshake, it wouldn't just be brown, it would be thick and goopy somehow. Also think about the type of person who would drink your beverage. For example, a martini drinker would probably be more elegant than a beer drinker. This week we're also giving you some extra restrictions by assigning you drinks. You may choose your own from the list, but only one person per drink."

I chose milk.
Milk is very, very simple, pure and flowy and I wanted my design to reflect that. I also thought about the kind of person who drinks milk; some one who lives a balanced, healthy life. They might be ordinary, but they're so in an extraordinary way. Milk might be a bit boring and banal, but it's also what most of us start our lifes off with and what keeps us healthy and strong through our lives. Milk is also very versatile and is used for everything from cheese to fabric.

***

The dress is made out of milk white semi-matte silk. The top is tied behind the neck and the tails of it will flow down the back. The dress will billow and flow like milk being poured as the person wearing it moves.
The d'Orsays are made of the same milky silk as the dress.

Bit Marilyn Monroe don't you think? Nice though

Yes, Marilyn's iconic white dress in "The Seven Year Itch" was a white halterneck, but that's where the similarity stops. Marilyn was all about sex appeal and flirting and being every bit the fabulous blonde bombshell she was and this is more about looking young, healthy and even a little sporty.

is this a sketch for an actual dress that you'll be sewing?

Nope, it's just a design, I sadly don't have the time to sew these into real clothing.

I love how the character instructs us.
I don't think I have ever seen that situation on DA before.

I thought that having the model tell people to read the description would make folks actually read it instead of skipping over it. The dress isn't half as cool if you don't know the story behind it.

I thought it'd be prudent to point that out, since the design sketch itself doesn't give the whole story. And I know a lot of people skip the descriptions all together.

Gorgeous.
It's simple, and fabulous, and the description seems like you took a lot of time to think about it.

However, the only concern I have is how is it couture? If you could explain that to me, I would be totally bought.

I'd say that the material used, the fact that the dress has to be personally fitted to the person who wears it so it'll look the best (and so that the top will cover what it needs to & stay in place without tape or glue ) as the volume of the skirt bit is relative to the size of the perons wearing the dress. And it would of course be totally hand sewn.

Okay. You've done it.
As much as I dislike simple things, I this!
You should seriously go into fashion. Intern for Anna Sui!

It was actually pretty hard designing something as simple as this. I just started with an initial design sketch and then kept thinking "must take off more", "must make it simpler" as I worked on the design. It was fun to see how simple you can make things and still keep everything clothing shaped. I think I could have pushed this further still had I the time.

And I love Anna Sui!
Not sure I'd like the fashion world though. I think it's even more cut throat than costuming and I had a hard time dealing with the back stabbing and rumor mills and poop as it was.
