Description Years ago, I did some fanzine illustration. This has always been one of my favourites. Dayna from Blakes 7.

Pen & Ink has never been my favourite medium, but this one worked.

*faints*

I remember, back when I could actually draw a little bit, drawing portraits of Dayna in high school in the 80s!

That really captures her strength.

I love the shading.

I am in awe. I am an instant fan.

Dayna has really striking features, which helped with the likeness. This is about the only decent ink drawing I ever managed.

(and how cool that you recognised her )

This is really, really gorgeous! I do a bit of pen and ink myself, but not enough to say I'm good either. Could you tell me how you worked out which line-thicknesses should go where for shading, so I can improve? Hope to hear from you! If I don't, I will most definitely keep checking up on your gallery and seeing what other awesome creations you come up with!

Thanks! This is an old drawing, and I haven't done any pen and ink work lately. It's a difficult technique, and I need lots of practice to improve .

I think if I tried it again, I'd use the variation in line thickness and the separation of the lines to vary the shaded areas (thick lines close together for darker shadowed areas, medium lines a bit further apart for medium shading, thin fainter lines close together for lighter areas, and thin lines further apart for lightest). I'd also try to make the lines follow the contours of her face rather (curve around cheeks) rather than straight and in the same direction like this drawing.

I had pens with several different thick nibs. If you only have the one pen, then closer together for the darker shaded areas, and try to draw fainter lines further apart for your lighter shading areas.

Here are some great pen techniques (I'd love to be able to do this )

Wow---B7 fanart! Nice!

I heard they're going to remake the series. I can't decide if I'm thrilled (they did an awesome job with Dr. Who after all) or terrified (god they could so botch it in so many ways).

Thank you - I used to do a lot of B7.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn out to be awesome.
