I sketched this months and months ago out of boredom and was motivated my *Frostydoodle not to get rid of it. Even though CS5 crashed and deleted the original, and I had to redo the line art two times, I finally finished.Wolf-fox hybrid (I went kinda crazy with the ear size) and aptly named by ~Lava-Aquamarine Beautypants Whiskerton McEmeraldeyes. Quite a perfect name if you ask me.

I agree with you on the shading... again. I can't seem to get it right when I draw animals. They have weird facial muscles ha ha. If you find anything, please tell me! I'd love to hear anything that would be helpful!

Well, I spent like 5 minutes on this because I had forgotten
But I found these two tutorials by the same person:

They seem useful, and that person can obviously help you far more than I, so there you are ^^
Basically, I think the two of us have the same problem - we don't know how to work in 3D. I never know where to put the shadows and what shape to give them because even though I can fake 3D, I can't work with it for real to save my life
