The image shows the volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula of Iceland, which took place in the Meradalir Valley at the Fagradalsfjall volcano. The volcanic eruption began at about 1:15 p.m. on August 03, 2022, and this image was taken at about midnight the following day. The eruption started with the opening of a fissure which, according to the length data, varied between 250 and 500 meters. In the neighboring valley Geldingadalir there had been a volcanic eruption in the previous year, which lasted about half a year. In this volcano, the eruption has strongly decreased on August 19, 2022, and two days later no more lava emerged.
