is announcing a big photomanipulation contest, which will last until mid-May. Our monthly challenges will be interrupted for this time.
Artists of all skill levels have a chance to win fantastic prizes, provided by communityrelations . You have pretty much time, and the prizes are worth your efforts, so please do your best, mesmerize us with your creativity!
What you have to do is to:
Create a character or scene based on some famous movie, TV series or a cartoon.
I emphasize - famous! Choose a real hit of the world cinema, but not an unknown low-budget film that you have watched last weekend!
- popular fantasy series like Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Avatar or The Lord of the Rings;
- movies of Disney and Tim Burton;
- historical movies like Troy or Titanic;
- adaptation of works of world classical authors (Jules Verne, Jane Austen, Shakespeare);
- sci-fi like Star Wars, Interstellar or The Fifth Element;
- trillers, horrors and mystic ones, like Stranger Things, It, Joker;
- Marvel or DC comics;
- movies based on computer games (for example Tomb Rider)
- cartoons (WALL-E, Frozen, Ratatouille)
These are just examples, but i think you caught my thought. If you will have some doubts, please better note me or comment below before creating your entry.
As I said you can portray a single character (characters) or recreate a scene from a chosen movie. So, it can be a portrait or an epic battle, or even a landscape no emphasis on characters (for example sailing (sinking) Titanic or Hogwarts on fire). They must be recognizable but in any case you have to tell in the description what exactly you created. By your desire you may give some links or screenshots from that film.

How the contest will go:
You create a masterpiece and submit it to the general CONTEST FOLDER from March 2nd to May 17th. Please read carefully the contest rules below.
We accept just one entry from a participant, but you can change your entry until May 17th. Note me, if you are going to replace it.
After May 17th the independent jury (I don’t know yet who are they, but be sure, they’re competent and unbiased) will subdivide the entries into 3 categories: Advanced, Intermediate, Amateurs.
Do not signify a category in the description.
Important! If you want to get into the Advanced category, you should not only show great skills but also CREATE your characters (if they will be in your entry) instead using cosplay models. I mean if you want to portray, for example, Maleficent, please don’t use a stock photo of a woman dressed exactly as Maleficent with horns on her head and called “Maleficent stock #4”
Then the jury will determine 3 winners in each category (totally 9) and they will be announced until the end of May.
We’ll renew monthly challenges in June.

You said about legitimate sources.. but since this is fan art contest aren't you supposed to get the faces of the characters correct? Thus there's no possibly 100% free / 'legitimate' sources to get these stocks 'coz you can't just use any celebrity's photos freely?

Look at the examples I included in this journal, and at the current entries. No celebrities, only legitimate sources and a lot of creative. This is a contest, a challenge, if you could use original photos from movies, it would be too easy, don’t you think?
