Description "But wandering in the summer in the woods of Neldoreth he came upon Lúthien, daughter of Thingol and Melian, at a time of evening under moonrise, as she danced upon the unfading grass in the glades beside Esgalduim. Then all memory of his pain departed from him, and he fell into an enchantment; for Lú thien was the most beautiful of all the Children of Ilúvatar."

-The Silmarillion, Chapter 19, Of Beren and Lúthien by J.R.R. Tolkien

A lovely picture...I especially love the free-flowing style of your painting, it really communicates the freedom of her dance. Only crit is that i wouldn't have expected her dress to be that short, but I suppose it could be whirling in the air. Still, it's no biggie, just something that niggles me a bit.
I do like how you've done the ground. The mottled black and green looks very authentic, very natural. It's lovely.
And I like the studied gaze on her face, as if she's really concentrating on the delicacy of her moves. Good work, love it

Thanks much!

I can't believe I'm getting such a detailed and lovely analysis, though.

0____0 I love this! I love the woody atmosphere and, of course, Luthien!!!! She looks so happy and at peace dancing in the wood! Very good job capturing her!!! I especially love her dress and the folds swoshing at the end of her skirt! Beautimous!!!

:sigh:

It's really not fair that this has received so few comments! Unbelievable! This is a really wonderful rendition of Luthien dancing so beautifully in the Hidden Kingdom. She looks fair and carefree, and totally elvish. I think it's the earthy tones of the watercolour that helps to achieve this sort of whimsical look. I love her clothing too, it's perfect! The anatomy is a little off, however, the most notable aspect being her fairly long arms. But I still feel you did a really great job on this. I really like it!

Also, it's great to find yet another Tolkien fan! Be sure to visit my site when you get the time!

Oh thank you! *blushes*

I know you from Elfwood (or my pseudo-lurkdom in Elfwood,) and I've admired your work greatly, and thus I much value this comment.

The anatomy is a little off, however, the most notable aspect being her fairly long arms.

Yes, I noticed that; several people at lortart in LiveJournal pointed it out as well, thank you still for the input.

Also, it's great to find yet another Tolkien fan!

Tolkien fans are rather hard to come by, and despite the recent movie-spawn explosion of Lord of the Rings, still not many people really get into the books and find love for this world. From my experience, many people find Tolkien's writing style boring and rather tedious.

Thank you again!

True, but there are many others who absolutely adore Tolkien's written style, you and me included . Anyway, keep up the great work. I never knew that you've already seen my work before!
