Nela is a commission from . I know she's been really excited about her too so I hope she lives up to expectations!Certainly a very complex commission, Nela has a finger inbetween each of her primary feathers. She has a goat hair and duck feathers, all of which I dyed myself on my woodburning stove ^_^ She has been airbrushed with acrylics and varnished to make sure the paint doesn't come off.
She has a wire armature, so she is fully posable. I made these dolls from scratch, starting with a wire armature. I sculpt fimo onto the armature, wrap with stuffing then measure and cut a pattern for the fur. I then paint the fimo, glue on any embellishments like scales or feathers, finish the wings and finally paint the eyes. The eyes add life to them for sure, and are the most important part. Her wire armature means she is fully posable, from her head to her feet, also her wings can be bent at the "wrist" and "shoulder".
Nela was complex not because of her armature but because of all the little details. An earring, tail cuffs, her necklace, the way her hair fell, the colours of her wings, the little ridges of fur down her spine... Even the sculpted feathers around her eyes were unique and different to do. Making her tail feather was a certain "eureka" moment! I was originally going to make it from fimo until I realised how I could make it far more realistic using a goose feather.

I'm not sure what you mean? The dolls are wire wrapped in stuffing and then have fur sewn over the stuffing, so they are squishy but posable.

The batting or the fur? The stuffing I buy is a bit like velcro, the fur is sewn.

gorgeous absolutely gorgeous! I adore he fact that the wings are actual feather and not just sculpted to look like feathers. then agin if they're just sculpted to look like feathers then I envy you immensely lol

Magweno, how is your airbrush air compressor? I have a big one but I am afraid that it can explodes, that's one reason because I didn't use my airbrush yet -.-

It's fine, it's 30psi when it's fully pumped and 15psi constant pressure. if you're worried about it exploding you can let air escape from the air hose joint to lower it to 30psi, but i don't know if that'll work haha

Not yet, I have a feeling customs might have stopped them because they're feathers and they have to check they're not infected with something

It's possible. They were supposedly marked as "art", but in the case that they have been stopped it should be fine. They're only domestic greenwing feathers, and aren't from any restricted or controlled species, so they should pass through. Though the way customs is, it might take a week or two longer. x_x

I just got them
Oh my goodness better than any christmas present! they're STUNNING! and so many of them! You're so kind, I've been feeling so awful today it was really great getting such a wonderful gift, thank you so much for sending them. I don't know if I could use them in a doll haha, they're too beautiful ^_^

Man, he drops feathers like that all the time, and we don't have the heart to throw them out, so we keep the best ones in buckets and bags and use them in hats and stuff... Mostly they just sit around.
Next time we get a whole bunch of them like that again, I'll have to mail you more! He moults all his feathers probably a couple times a year.
(He's so much trouble though, you don't want one for yourself. Trust me. Ahahaha~)

I keep staring at them in my studio, they're sort of iridescent green. not even iridescent, more luminescent! they're wonderful. I love them to bits ^_^ Someone suggested I make a mask from them, that could be cool but I don't have the heart! Thank you for picking matching ones for me, that was really perceptive and cool.

I'm glad you like them! My dad(it's his bird) was just happy that they were going to someone who would appreciate them, since otherwise they just sit here. Feel free to use them! I'm sure there will be more where that came from, and I'm happy to send them to you when I can get another set together. They really only cost a few dollars to send, so it's nothing at all to give them to you. c:
