Description Pokedex Challenge #60 #61 #62
I'm drawing the pokemons as they appear in the gameboy games: pokemon red and blue version, while I learn how to draw with Paint Tool Sai.

I had to try doing rain for this one!

Oranges and blues are the best combination because I can do a hue shift towards purple and yellow too

I know I'm repeating myself, but I love your blue and orange/yellow colour schemes! The dark oranges here make it look like it's raining but the setting sun just broke through the clouds a little, casting this wonderful warm light on the whole scene. And the paint style here really fits with the "fuzzy" look you often get with rainy scenes. I like it a lot!

... also that Poliwag is super cute.

You have a good eye, Naira! Blue + orange = the strongest contrast with blue. And everybody loves blue ;D If you have to tell someones favorite color, aim for the blue!
I did the rain because the scene was asking for it, just like you said

True - blue is always good And now that you mention it, I've never really thought about it, but blue/orange is (to me) the nicest complementary pair. It just makes for some pretty nice light scenarios

Blue is always good! My psychic powers are strong enough by now to know that's your favorite color too hahaha 80% of the population of this world loves blue, so my chances of getting this wrong are just 20% =~

Blue and orange are your favorite complementary pair?! What a fierce choice!! I love it too, it's the perfect color combination to rule the world~

I love the colors in this and the painterly style. I have a difficult time emulating that in sai myself. Any tips?

Oh! I know a trick, work with the smallest zoom you can. This is how I make the painterly style: because you're working far away without cares for making the perfect stroke and keeping the focus on the "big picture" haha

I always liked the fact that the whirl in their bellies are actually intestines, that is a neat detail ^^

Ah, the rain looks really good here. Did you use a special brush or you drew every drop seen here?

Yes!!! The intestines as a whirl are a nice detail, just like a real tadpole ♥

Oh! The rain was made by using noise, increasing it's levels and making the layer visible only there's white. Then, I used a motion blur filter and repeated the process a few times to get different sizes of drops (giving it more dimension).

That's a very good trick indeed ^^ And yes, you can see which drops are closer to the "viewer" when compared to the others
