Looking at the chronological line-up of the Terminator films can actually be like looking at the chronological history of modern Germany.Made an update: I've decided to label these as such, coinciding with my views on both Terminator movies and the states of Germany they correllate:
The Terminator/Kingdom of Prussia: The Great Original That Started It All
Terminator 2: Judgement Day/German Empire: The Amazing Sequel
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines/Weimar Republic: The Depressing Third Film
Terminator Salvation/Nazi Germany: The Awful Fourth Film That Derailed The Franchise
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles/West Germany & East Germany: The TV Spinoff
Terminator Genisys/Federal Republic of Germany: The Promising First Reboot
Terminator: Dark Fate/European Union: The Terrible Second Reboot

Essentially, it goes like this.
The first film is regarded as the unbeatable original, and the second film is thought of as just as great if not better. But when the third film rolled around, things hit a slump and definitely did not improve when the fourth film was released. Franchise = DERAILED!
That being said, a TV series was made to pass the time. Eventually, a reboot would be made, with many having mixed feelings about it.
Now compare this to the stages of Germany through the modern years. You know the rest.
