Description
Minas Ithil - the tower of rising moon - the counterpart of Minas Anor (later Minas Tirith), the seat of king Isildur and the most beautiful town in Gondor, located in the deep valley in the Mountains of Shadow, a citadel of the DΓΊnedain on the very border of Mordor......until it was besieged and conquered by the ringwraiths and turned into the dreadful city called Minas Morgul.

It would be fascinating to see the Minas Morgul counterpart to this image, perhaps even with the exact same template, but just the city itself changed to resemble would it became. Just an idea ... its been a while since you uploaded any Tolkien

Yes, I have been playing with that idea practically since I drew this picture. 
As for the Tolkien art, it's been a while, but hopefully there will be more, I just didn't have much time for drawing recently and when I did, then there were more pressing project to do (such as all those churches and landscapes for certain thematic exhibitions). But I miss doing some solid fantasy illustrations, especially Tolkien of course.

Ah yes, something a long the lines of the Gondolin 'Before & After' would be perfect - although yes of course, only when you have time and the inclination. Projects, especially when they are paid and/or owing to someone, are of course the more pressing

While I like this picture, there are several problems with it. For one, either the city is huge, or the Ephel DΓΊath are more like hills - yet most of its peaks were well above the snowline, which so far to the South must be pretty high.
Two, I understand that the mountains need to be a bit "menacing", but the Mountains of Shadow was a natural range, not Sauron-architected like Gorgoroth.
Three, Minas Ithil was built into a vale, yet this is more like an open valley.
Four, and last, no vegetation, yet Minas Ithil was the capital of and thus situated in Ithilien.
Well. Er, yes. But I like the picture, all the same

Well, you're right, there may be some problems. The proportion isn't really best, but let's assume we see just some front cliffs of the range and not the highest peaks. As for the mountains, I couldn't really help to make them look markedly sinister in contrast to the city.

Minas Ithil looks really nice. The white color is perfect for the Tower of the rising moon.
This reminds me of Nasmith's version of Gondolin more than Minas Tirith.

I really like that picture of Gondolin (as well as most other pictures by Ted Nasmth). That's probably the reason this drawing came out in a similar fashion.

It is well drawn, but the book speaks of it being an exact duplicate of Minas Tirith. So that each Prince who originally took seats there would have equal thrones...THe forces of Mordor after they occupied the abandoned city (same as they did Uden Vale) they made it look all menacing......but it still looks cool

It's a good point. It's quite possible that Minas Ithil had also originally seven circles. But we don't know how these cities looked like when they were built. Maybe even Minas Tirith (or Minas Anor) was originally smaller than the magnificent city we know from the LotR. We know that the original capital of Gondor was Osgiliath and many people probably moved from Osgiliath to Minas Tirith during the Third age. And it is stated that Minas Tirith was rebuilt several times. So if both cities were originally smaller, then it's possible that the less populated Minas Ithil remained smaller while Minas Titith was enlarged...
But it is of course only my supposition...

You may be correct, all I remember is what I skimmed through in the Appendix at the back of Return of the king, also when the plaque depopulated much of Gondor, leading to Minas Morgal and the Udin Vale coming under mordor control, maybe the cities deteriorated, doesn't change the fact its one of the best series out there, and the awesome movies did not do the awesomeness of the books total justice

in the days before Mordor conquered it!

Me neither. That was one of the reasons why I decided to draw it. I like drawing places in Tolkien's world which have not been pictured very much yet.
