Description "Red Green Blue Orange Purple"

Yeah, the orange is pretty much as bright as it seems in this scan.

Hehe, the longest part was all the tiny dots!

I started out in some colored ballpoint pens(solid triangles), but they weren't giving me the coverage I wanted, so I colored it over with my G-2 pens. I actually had to break out my acrylic paint to cover some mistakes in the orange section--for some reason there were several black dots that smeared horribly as I penned in the orange. It drove me crazy throughout the drawing process because I didn't want to try painting over it until I was done with the pen work.

hahaa! yeaa ive nearly gone mad with too much focus before.. i would get headaches lol! and yea i know how annoying it can be to smudge something, especially at a late stage of the drawin.
sry to just go i was really tired, finding it difficult to read msg and think of typing ykno. hehe the pic is so immensly detailed omg!

Lol, I was at work! Shows you how busy I was

On a random side note, there's a group around here called #KickYourOwnAss that specializes in making you redo old deviations. It's pretty interesting, but not very realistic for much of my art as it is mostly technical. I actually redid one, just for giggles and grins, and you know what? It looked EXACTLY THE SAME! [link] Imagine that!

I should try something like your beautiful cars--that would be something that I might improve on if I try to redraw it a few times. Op art can feel like a dead end sometimes.

heh! so you went to sleep at work??
well, not exactly the same but yeh i see, they do look almost exactly da same! lol, seems like a cool group, so you gotta go from serious-fun or fun-serious on your old deviations?
hmm...
Yeah if you want to try something new do cars...but if you copy MY cars then yours might look better ....but seriously, took me ages to get them this good..heh! well, Op art i only do as one-offs, just for fun, to cure bordom lol..so yea

The fun-go-serious-go-fun was a recent contest they held for the group, it isn't a mandatory requirement. Their current contest is to redo one of your pics in a different style (i.e cartoon to realistic; abstract to concrete; etc.) Again, how on earth do you redraw op art as another form?!

I think the only car I ever tried to draw was a Beetle--a horrible little bug which resulted from only my flawed memory of what a bug looks like. Wish I still had it now, maybe I could redraw it to show off my amazing improvement over at least 8 years ago! Do you usually use source pics? Or do you study them long enough to get an amazing drawing?

yea exactly lol, op art isnt cartoony or realistic..its just...optical Cant you just submit two drawings of the same things, old & new?
cuz ive drawn the same car but one old one new...and bikes..
i could tell you how i draw my cars (long winded), yes i use reference pics, much better, a few cars i can draw from memory from one angle only. Def.use ref pic
did you loose ur beetle drawing?

I think if the subject is basically the same, it counts as a redraw, absolutely! I've seen people draw the same character in slightly different poses, and that seems to qualify.

Ah yes, I fear that my beetle is lost to the wind. I did it sooo long ago. Maybe I should just start from scratch

oh okay i might join..hey its probably better to do a new one, prbly come out much better since you did the other one so long ago.. do the light shading first, dark parts after, ofcourse, if you didnt know i mean, jus cuz dark smudges more easily, you probably already know that lol

That's a good tip. I have a set of varying-softness graphite pencils that are itching to be broken into! Apparently, the softer the pencil, the darker the line.

I've always had trouble with normal, wooden pencils. As soon as I discovered pens and mechanical pencils my drawing/writing life changed dramatically! For some reason I do my best math in pen, and have an easier time reading any sort of handwriting on colored paper. I take notes on blue (my favorite for the occasion) and turn in homework on light green engineering paper (looks best with pencil). Weird, no?

I got some tips so you're a pencil newbie then? You'll improve quicker than you think I gotta say, pen is my fave to work with, and harder to shade with..Very thin technical pens ive yet to get the hang of..
umm...yea..quite weird but not really. hey i heard dyslexic people can for some reason read easier with coloured paper

hey if you ever draw a car i got some small tips, i dont know if they'll help but they're things i always do when drawing a car.

Lol, I know what you mean about the pen shading! I drew a red tree with a sharpie pen recently and now half of the pen tip is missing! Must've rubbed off onto the paper, still writes pretty well, though...

Hey, you should do a tutorial! Those are always interesting and helpful.

MeaganEmerson In reply to LostIdentity1110 [2011-02-03 03:15:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and maybe it can benefit you as well! Every time you start/finish a defined step, you could take a picture and write some notes about that particular step. You may learn something unique about your drawing techniques compared to other artist's tutorials on realistic/technical drawing. I don't know, just rambling...

well...i dunno. I wouldnt like to do it because then it's like "Im so great im even teaching you howda doit" ykno?? I know where i stand after joining this site Right in the middle lol.
Hey I had an idea this morning, you're getting tired of op art, why not draw some optical illusions, like Escher's ever ascending/descending stairs, impossible triangle etc..think your technical skills would come in handy there just a thought...

if i talk later then maybe i'll show you a staircase pic i did! its not an op illusion. Im really afraid to upload it.

I love Escher, I've got a HUGE red book full of his art and similar works inspired by him.

Staircases can be hard, there are so many perpendicular edges and shadows that make it difficult not to go crazy! I stick to doing staircases digitally now...

I like doing those continuous line drawings--it makes for an interesting challenge and is even more interesting when you try to mirror it over an axis. I made something resembling two computers back-to-back that way

LostIdentity1110 In reply to MeaganEmerson [2011-02-03 19:26:35 +0000 UTC]

omg i want that book! i would copy every page! and write "MC Escher" on it of course..in the corner or sumthin...
hell yea its interesting, when doing op art theres so many different ways to do it. you dont have to stop doing op art, you could just do new ideas in it..
it was a big challenge for me,the stairs one im on about, good to set yourself a challenge sometimes hey. some higher stairs went wonky and out, a small mistake in the beginning makes a big mistake at the end. butterfly effect? i think i did go crazy drawing it lol..

We've had the book for a while now, it's called M.C. Escher: His Life and Complete Graphic Work. I found a copy of it on Amazon, but it looked to be in a pitiful condition. This also might be it, but I can't tell without a picture [link] It should have his "Reptiles" picture on the front of it.

it said "image not available" but i googled it, yes it had the reptiles on the front, another great piece of work! His ideas are so outside-the-box.

Neat drawings rock, sloppy drawings...well....they look rushed, and what's the rush?
Ashamed?
No reason for that...
