Description Yeah something different :3 This was so fun to do so I thought I upload it here <3

Yes I know my screen is really, really old(15 years). And before you say anything stupid like "LOL buy a new one it´s embarrassing", "lol look about that shit screen it needs to be in a museum" etc. let me tell you why I refuse to buy a modern pc screen.
First of all, that type of screen I use has way better colours, background lighting and shows everything smoother in general than newer ones. New pc screens hurt my eyes due to their sharpness and weird background lighting. They also aren´t good for drawing, because the colours aren´t vibrant enough. I have a bad eye condition naturally so I HAVE to use a screen like that.
And anyway, why buy a new one, just because the one I use is old? Waste of money. ^^

I made this photo at night, and my camera makes really bad quality photos at night.

I made something like that 2 years ago also with the pc screen and one with my phone screen 33.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_maz… 38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mb2…

To be completely honest (and I'm sure you've already heard this by now), I didn't even notice the monitor until I read your description. I was focused in on the noise/grainy-ness of the picture and how you duplicated it with the character. It looks very nice. I like your Pikachu picture, too. Very cute!

I really like the concept of the CRT monitor, a recent monitor would just be off for me
I don't really have any criticism with this....some I'm not gonna critique

I have pretty bad eye sight too, I'm 80% blind in both eyes and can totally understand what you mean about screens. I have an old Dell 22 inch LCD monitor, they are pretty much THE only things I use. Even my Samsung laptop (which is newer than my desktop) doesn't do the right type of colours for my eyes. They make amazing LCD and LED screens these days and you can pretty much adjust it and custom order to whatever you want too. I know the saying, don't fix it if it aint broke.... but older screens like these can be bad in the long term for your sight. These Philips ones are the old CRT ones too, so 5 years isn't really accurate more like 15 odd years but hey~ you gotta do what cha gotta do
I love the detais like the ripple effects and such. But since this is also a grainy photo (taken with a camera phone?) the digital and grain of the low quality of the photo doesn't sit right... This is just another artists point of seeing your work. Please don't take it as a dig or anything! D:

Before I got a laptop, I used to use that type of monitor. They're really reliable, and they last forever!

Also, this is really amazing! You even textured the greninja so it looks like a part of the picture!

cute! 'u'
i like how you made him grainy a little too haha he fits in really well!

big question, have you seen oled screens? because those are perfect 'u' the colours are true blacks/true whites on the same screen, they're really vibrant. they have very, very good backlight too. the vita has one.
if you ever have to upgrade i'd recommend that -u-
crts are cute but yeah, if you need to upgrade, ever, then i suggest looking into oled. >3<

Very cool idea and great execution!

The thing with your screen is just a matter of being used to. It's not smoother, it's duller, in the end it'll distort your experience.
Newer screens will evidently put less strain on your eyes if you sit far enough from them, because your eyes doesn't need to try and readjust all the time, reducing headaches and eye strain.

If not for the sake of art, maybe you'll reconsider for the sake of your health, especially as artist you surely understand the importance of having working eyes.
I'm near-sighted myself and can relate a litte I think

Greetings, sound88

tbh, monitors and tv screens are almost all matching now whereas with crt they don't... so i think she's just adjusted to that monitor.
when i went from 2008 laptop to a modern screen, i thought my new screen looked HORRIBLE. reds were off and looked blue.
i opened it up recently and now... IT looks bad. like... it's really dull and the reds are deep and muddy and gross.

i think eyes can adjust to seeing colours a certain way. then you can adjust to a new set. idk how it works but i swear it does.

maybe she'll look into oled when they're more affordable. right now, they're ridiculously expensive

Milunatik In reply to miiyukirin [2014-10-05 20:27:49 +0000 UTC]

There are pretty affordable ones that have 1920x1080 resolution like mine, it can show HD and HD+ and that's all you'll need even the next 10 years.

i doubt yours is oled XD
i'm not getting 4k until oled is affordable

Milunatik In reply to miiyukirin [2014-10-06 00:46:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah 4K can wait, its high end, this stuff can wait 3 or 4 years, before that it's not reasonable priced at all

miiyukirin In reply to Milunatik [2014-10-06 01:51:59 +0000 UTC]

i don't honestly see much between 4k and 1080p... but then i literally just got my first hd tv this year ><;;;;;;
and i got it for free ><;;;;

i can totally wait for oled. now that i've experienced it with vita, i'm honestly unable to accept anything less for an upgrade haha XD

Milunatik In reply to miiyukirin [2014-10-06 02:48:28 +0000 UTC]

The jump from HD+ (1080p) to 4K (2160p) is 4 times more resolution.
I haven't seen it yet, but it has to be quite the jump. On the other hand, you need to have software and hardware that is capable of showing 4K at its fullest.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

miiyukirin In reply to Milunatik [2014-10-06 05:44:55 +0000 UTC]

yeah but there's not a huge jump like there is from sd to hd. i've seen 4k in stores before. it's a jump but it's not mind blowing.
i mean, hd, you can already see almost everything on the screen (like, every little pore). so... i mean, i don't know how to explain it but
my dad was basically trying to explain it like this, he said:

"hd was like zooming 4x zoom for someone who can't see size 6 font. it cleared everything up. 4k is 4x that. it's nice, but it's only going to show minor details that don't make a big difference"

of course one day there will only be 4k, but i don't think anyone should go out of their way for it. it's like colouring hair in bits vs colouring every strand. it's like a preference thing yknow?
compared to oled, which is like this: www.extremetech.com/wp-content…
THAT is exciting to me. 4k isn't too important to me, tbh. i'll care more for the fact the resolution lets me see more on video games >3< but i'm not excited either~
