My entry for Life-d-sign's competition.

Name: Hollow [link]
Breed: Arab/otherworld/QH
Gender: Mare
Dam/sire: Screamer X Bonfire [link]
Height: 16hh (leggy)
Age: 5 yrs (going on 6)
Discipline: Dressage, Halter, Endurence.

Entering Life-d-sign's Equine show.

Section: Dressage
Move: Extended trot
Ridden by: Miss MoonQuill [link]
Owned by: WindDrinker Clearwater stables [link]
Status: Retired broodmare, still used for show.

Mistress of the stables, Miss Moonquill was nervous as she put the finishing touches to her makeup, a dash of blue to her eyelids as it is her favourate colour and made her feel a little more at ease. She straightened her black velvit jacket and polished a wayward golden button before shutting the truck door.

Hollow one of screamer's more leggy offspring was tied to the side of the truck, which had bold romantic lettering declairing what stables it was from.
Hollow was alert her ears swivelling and perking at everything, her leggs were trembling from excitement and MoonQuill hoped she wouln't have a fiesty horse on her hands right when discipline and concentration was called for.

The Mistress checked over all the tack, making sure the girth was tight and the bridle was all up correct. She put a last dollop of polish to each of Hollow's four hooves, untied her and mounted.

~This is it~ she thought to herself.

She circled in the preperation field and tried to relax her mind, gently humming to herself, the song she had chosen for thier segment. A peice Hollow took to particularly well after trudging through song after song with her throwing fits.

The commentator announced them next and it was time to head out into the arena.

"....and next up we have 6 year old Mare Hollow ridden by MoonQuill of WindDrinker ClearWater stables..."

The crowd went quiet as they entered the ring.

The loud speakers crackled briefly and then thier song began to play.

Toy soldiers: [link] by Martika

Lyrics:

Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.

It wasn't my intention to mislead you,
It never should have been this way. What can I say?
It's true, I did extend the invitation,
I never knew how long you'd stay.

When you hear temptation call,
It's your heart that takes, takes a fall.
Won't you come out and play with me

Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle rages on for toy soldiers.

It's getting hard to wake up in the morning,
My head is spinning constantly. How can it be
How could I be so blind to this addiction
If I don't stop the next one's gonna be me.

Only emptiness remains, it replaces all, of the pain.
Won't you come out and play with me

Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle rages on for toy soldiers.

Only emptiness remains, it replaces all, of the pain.
Won't you come out and Play with me?

Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle rages on for toy soldiers.

Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle rages on for toy soldiers.

I really can't express how gorgeous this is! I'm almost half-expecting to see real horses that color in the show ring now, haha.
I love this picture. Even though I hope to enter the same competition, I'm going to vote for you.

Its from the movie 'top gun' soundtrack.
Toy soldiers is a gorgeous song.

I had the wrong woman listed as the singer on my mp3 will fix that.

The song is here on youtube: [link]

Ive been suffering toothache migranes the past 48 hours so the story is a little short and the picture isnt as detailed as perhaps if I was a bit more sane XD

I love the way you draw people, the rider's face is cute and her makeup looks good too. Wow, Hollow looks really beautiful. The detail you put in those braids in her mane is just... wow! The red leather on her bridle looks really good on her, too.

I didnt want to use black or white on the bridle lest they get lost amongst her colouring. im glad it came out ok.

And, you know, traditional brown leather would be waaaaay too boring. It did come out very well, most all your stuff does.

Oh I'm sure he would be gorgeous in a dressage competition! Wonderful job getting the rider mounted on the horse just right, I admire that. I still need more practice with that.

I was using a picture reference and remembering how we have to sit everyday at school.

FuzzyBunsOfSteel In reply to moonfeather [2009-04-07 14:52:52 +0000 UTC]

Hey, there you go! For myself I would have to use a picture reference and observe someone riding. I have been riding and since I play the piano I automatically have an upright posture in the saddle. Anytime I sit I just sit straight up. DOn't even have to be told. If I could ride more often then I might be able to picture the person in hte saddle from my own experience. ^__^
