Hoo-boy, this was a fun set!
Remember that era in the late ‘90s through the mid-2000s when cartoons and toys began re-hashing old lines from the ‘80s? To bring them up to "new millennium" standards, they injected them with all the current trends of the time, which mostly meant ripping off anime, extreme sports and The Matrix. To make it even weirder, a lot of graphic designers back then were new to Photoshop, so many a toy package was rife with simple, overwrought filters and heavy-handed base effects. What resulted from this strange recipe was an amalgamation that became quintessentially 2000s.
So, in honor of that magical time, I present Creepazoids: Evolution--a New Millennium re-branding of the Creepazoids franchise! So grab your Razor scooter, load up some Powerman 5000 on your iPod, and take that red pill!

My favorite is a tie between 3-D and Macks. Also Wai Tu Kei was some clever naming.

Nice choices! 3-D and Muerto are tied for first for me, but I also like Cherry Bomb and Zuba a lot. This was a really fun era to reference!

He is! Well, more specifically, he's modeled after a Jet Set Radio character that's styled after a Dreamcast. If that makes sense.

Oh, that's true! It might be a fun challenge to figure out how they change timelines! For characters like Muerto, who's undead, I guess he just waits around until the world around him changes. Same with 3-D, since robots can theoretically live forever. For the others... maybe they hit a time portal!

Yeah, totally! I wanted to reference Vasquez's art for this set, since his style became so prominent around that time! Roman Dirge was another artist who used that sort of "Goth cartoon" style from that era.

Thank you, sir! This period was pretty influential for me--I think a lot of my design aesthetics came from that era. I was still kind of finding my style, so I soaked it all in.
Yeah, I think Muerto might be my favorite! He's probably in my top 5 favorite Creepazoids of all time, actually! Though I really like how 3-D turned out, too...

Yeah, he goes way back! I was never as happy with the original design as I wanted to be, so it was nice to take another stab at him! Especially to reinvent him for a new period/style.
Gee, I'm not sure! I guess he just checks all the right boxes for me--I really like how the respirator turned out (particularly its glossy rubber texture), I like the color scheme, the baggy clothes, the slightly futuristic look, the skeleton body--these are all design elements I really like!

Yeah, definitely! Creepazoids are a ton of fun, and they're great for keeping my character design skills sharp. I don't get to design new characters that often in the comic, so I don't want that part of my brain to get lazy.
Luckily, I've had more time for Creepazoids this year so far than I expected, so I'll keep crankin' 'em out!

Yeah! Time's been a little shorter lately, but I'm still managing to get a couple Creepazoids in a week! I have the next three sets planned out after I finish the current one--lots of fun characters I can't wait to draw!
