Description More Creepazoids!  I have a few more sets I want to get done before the end of the year.  We'll see how that whole "free time" thing goes.

So, sort of in the spirit of the pirate series, Creepazoids: Here There Be Monsters , I thought I'd pick a character from a previous set and flesh out their whole team.  So, from series 5, Creepazoids: Weird West , here we get to see The Dead Nine, Muerta's gang of outlaws, outcasts and weirdos.  Watch out for these guys!

A lot of these guys just OOZE so much personality! They absolutely feel like a rogues gallery of wanted criminals that would be oh so fun to watch in a shootout. I particularly like Chupacabra; there's something very cohesive about him. Like there's so much personality you can glean from his looks and choice of pose alone.

The hat on Skinwalker is a lovely touch.

If El Boingo is offering a CD of Oingo covers, I'd buy it.

Thank you so much!  Figuring out each character's personality is a huge part of the fun. ^____^ These guys could actually have a full story around them--seems like each member of this gang has a story to tell.  Chupacabra strikes me as a mercenary that joined up with the group to get paid.  He's a total professional and is very good at what he does, but once he gets his money, his loyalties end.

Skinwalker might be my favorite character (naturally, since I generally put bowler hats on my favorite characters ) and I would absolutely buy El Boingo's CDs, too!  It's a dead man's party, after all.

Thanks so much!  I agree!  I really liked how she turned out for this set.  I don't know if I'll ever do a "version 3" for her--I'm not sure I could top this one.

One can takes a characters done two or three years ago and see the differences with newer version. To the point in which one says WTF XP

Ha, ha!  Definitely!  I've been re-drawing and re-designing some of my characters for almost 30 years, so some of them are unrecognizable!

A character I once made for a story suffered so many changes at the course of two years that if one take the first and last versions one couldn't related them as the same personage... the curious thing is that with all the drawings one could follow the changes, to the point of tracking each one of them as just minor variations that through time amassed into deeper changes

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Anonymous--Friend [2020-02-23 22:27:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, totally!  It's always interesting how that happens!  Sometimes it's subtle changes over time, or big changes that reinvent a character in one fell swoop--or a combination of both!  It says a lot about how we change as people and artists as we progress through life.

I actually posted a design evolution for one of my characters here: Evolution: Sai  He started off as a Sonic rip-off and ended up a looming monster!

Awesome as always. I really dig what you did with the Skinwalker (brilliant take on the folklore), and Ronin's samurai sword guns.

Thank you, sir!  Really felt like doing a more creepy set again. Yeah!  I've always liked the Skinwalker myth, and even though it's not technically part of their story, I like to think that when they're not shape-shifting into animals or people, their natural form is a hideous flesh creature.  Sort of the result of always shifting and changing the body--it kind of wears it out and loses any natural shape.  Spoooooky!

All of their designs are very creative and wonderfully creepy. The Creepazoids series never fails to disappoint when it comes to character's designs. I especially like what you've done with Muerta and Skinwalker as one is a good spin on a word and the other is a giving new meaning to the Skinwalker mythology. All around visually stunning work.

Thanks, man!  This was a fun set to do!  Really had a hankerin' to draw some spooky outlaws.

Yeah!  I wanted to incorporate some Native American stuff into the set, too--give it an overall southwest flavor.  I love the myth of skinwalkers--I've always felt like, even though they take the shape of people or animals, that their actual form is some kind of horrible skin creature.  His design's also based on a Halloween costume I made a few years ago, which also seemed to fit this set.

Aetostheronin In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2018-08-27 06:29:51 +0000 UTC]

Is this anything to do with the new Red Dead coming out or just something for the drawing sake? All are quite unique looking and I like seeing some Western Mythos added in pieces as not many people consider them.

If Skinwalkers are anything as depicted in the myths surrounding them or something as depicted by your illustration then I would definitely not want to meet any. Especially since, the way they receive their powers is something horrible.

Oh, I guess it's coincidental!  I haven't had the chance to play any video games lately.  I haven't played Red Dead Redemption, but I heard it's good!

Definitely!  Nothing says "avoid at all costs" like a corrupted shaman. I meant to add more Native American mythological figures to the Mythos series, but I haven't had a chance to return to those in a while!  I guess I have to choose between Mythos and Creepazoids--when I get tired of one, I work on the other.

Aetostheronin In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2018-08-28 06:59:53 +0000 UTC]

If you ever get some free time I'd definitely check it out. There's one downloadable content that makes the whole game turn into a zombie game if you prefer to have more of a creep factor in it. It's very enjoyable due to the inclusion of the four horses of the apocalypse that can be found and tamed throughout the world.

You can do a set later on Native American folklore if you want. There's so many legends to choose from in Native American folklore like the Giant Bear, Thunderbird, the Creature that comes to find people lost in snowstorms, and even coastal legends of monsters that dwelled in the seas. The choices are very expansive however, I won't lie to you some of these myths aren't easy to get information on as different tribes can have different versions of each legend.

EEK! Barely sure where to start!

Skinwalker is The Stuff of Nightmares. And I love how Diablo reminds me of Blondie from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Nice touch with the devil-tail whip. Another cool weapon is Ronin's rifle-katana? Gun-blade? I don't know how it works, but it does. I had to look twice at Boingo's bass face. Did a double take. And I can never hate a bandoleer skirt. And as creepy as Renegade is, I think Skinwalker is the number one Creepazoid on this poster. I can't tell whether or not he has arms under that fleshcloak.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MiniMinx [2018-08-04 18:28:15 +0000 UTC]

Ha, ha!  Glad you like them!  I had a lot of fun with this set!

Totally!  I think Skinwalker's my favorite, too--I see him as a sort of secret weapon of the gang.  All manner of hellish nightmares could exist under his cloak (along with arms), and when the gang's in trouble, Skinwalker steps in to clean up the mess. He's actually based on a Navajo mythical monster by the same name, but little is known about them because Navajo are so afraid of them they don't discuss it with outsiders, for fear that they could be one.  Creepy! The actual mythical figures are supposed to take the form of animals and people, but I like to think that they're natural appearance is a horrible, ragged flesh monster.

Yeah!  I figured Ronin had his own kinda gun blade-type weapon.  Probably a blade with a gun barrel alongside it?  Something like that.

Thanks so much!  Nice choices!  I definitely like this version of Muerta more.  I'm tempted to create little character bios for them, since they all relate to each other.  Like Chupacabra could be a mercenary who's just with them to get paid, and Skinwalker's a secret weapon they use when things go south, something like that.
