All joking aside, though, the Legend of Korra is a great (not even great--FANTASTIC) show, probably currently my favorite show, and I really look forward to seeing a lot more in the future. Varrick is one of my favorite characters to come out of this entire franchise. That doesn't change my opinion that Avatar is still a masterpiece, even by comparison. But Korra, despite its varied flaws, is still amazing in a lot of aspects, and if there are people who like it even more than Avatar, I can honestly sort of see why. But despite what this comic might be suggesting, I do believe they are two different shows, and it's not entirely fair to always compare them in every aspect (although you certainly could and sometimes even should).

For those who aren't aware, Nickelodeon made the decision to pull Korra off of the air in favor of premiering new episodes via online streaming, due to the fact that broadcast viewership has not met projected goals. There's a lot of speculation to why this was the case, but a lot of people seem to be chalking it up to a) the leak of episodes from Book 3 and b) Nickelodeon screwing up by not advertising the series, premiering early, and initially burning through the episodes (though it was probably all done to counteract the leak, it doesn't seem to have improved things for them). But, apparently, online viewership has always been stronger for the series anyway, so, whatever. I'm going to keep watching and hopefully enjoying it. Book 3 is the best season so far in my opinion, and I hope they keep it up.

Please comment and enjoy.

Doesn't stop this punchline from being gut-bustingly hilarious.

Actually I found the pacing in the last air bender to be a bit rush

How? If anything, it was rushed in Korra.

Hmm, but in Korra they literally did a deus ex machina to give Korra her bending back.

>LoK xLaB crossover

I had a fanfiction of this once. I remember Ozai literally crying like a bitch as Korra put him in an effortless Wristlock as Korra responds with "Aang thought this was hard? I wish I had villains that didn't vengefully outclass me in every conceivable way."

Meanwhile, Asami (and if you were to see any of my fanart you can tell I love to book her as an evil cunt) blows a bullet in Azula's head after challenging her to Ag Ni Kai and then get outsmarted by Aang who stops her from ruling the fire kingdom the way she tried to rule Republic City

In the distant future, Asami rules the entire world and Korra never left that Wheelchair. Also Sokka tries to fuck Asami and gets cucked.

Ehh they've already caused a by going to the past, and the ancient avatar prophecy thing didn't specify which avatar could defeat the fire lord so, why not.

Good comic, it is my thoughts exactly. I have been disappointed by Korra many times.
1) the plot is largely driven by the stupidity of the protagonist, who then spend the rest of the time trying to fix her own mistake. The antagonists plans should never be dependent on specific actions of the protagonist, as then the plot could have been solved simply by removing the protagonist from the equation in the beginning.
2) It used the very infamous example of answering a question no one asked.
3) It gave us the almost painfully to watch "dark god out of nowhere" simply to up the scale of the conflict, that does not make the story more exiting, it just makes it contrived.
4) There is no real connection between the seasons , Amon the first antagonist have no relation to the second and so forth. Futhermore the crime in Republican city seemed to be taken the plot in one direction only for it to be interrupted by his revolution, which upped the scale of the conflict for no reason, which again makes it feel contrived.

I don't have any complaint about Aangs act, that was perfectly executed, which is what puts Korra in an even worse light.

Now when all that is said, it is still a fairly good show, deserving of four stars out of six.
Just to clarify, the six star rating system is
* bad                              <-- anything animated from the 1980's (seriously I have never seen anything good from that decade)
** remedial
*** fair
*** * good                       <-- The Legend of Korra
*** ** great
*** *** exceptional.       <-- The last airbender

AvinashTyagi [2015-01-05 23:55:44 +0000 UTC]

No, sorry, Last Airbender is crap compared to Korra

Aang is completely one dimensional character, while Korra actually has realistic growth

The situations that Korra deals with are far deeper and more applicable to the real world and the Villains are less cartoony

MercuryPaint In reply to AvinashTyagi [2015-01-06 00:57:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!! I like Aang as a person, but as a protagonist he really receives little character development. Like, whenever he's angry he'll just get depressed and destroy things, and that's pretty much it. Shallow as ever. And he recovers from those things like they never happened.

AvinashTyagi In reply to MercuryPaint [2015-01-06 02:38:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I mean people rag on Korra, but at least she has a character arc that makes sense

Also unlike Aang, she actually has control over her Avatar state, and doesn't need to throw a hissy fit to use it

EveryFandomGirl In reply to AvinashTyagi [2015-09-11 00:36:03 +0000 UTC]

You guys are forgetting that Aang lacked control because he was frozen for a century, he was never taught how to control it and it basically went with his emotional flow.

Also, Korra was an idiot in the third season when she went up against Zaheer/Zathere/Zaeverywhere and almost died, Aang would never have let that happen to himself, which we see when Zuko first captures him at the South Pole.

And, since we're comparing abilities anyway, i should point out that it's also kind of unfair that Korra got to unlock all 4 elements within the first season (not to mention the first few years of her life/childhood) and yet Aang had to learn all four of them from scratch in a single summer... and almost died, like, 5 times in the process... not to mention that, between the two, Aang learned all of his bending from each primal source (Air from the Skybison, Water from the Ocean and Moon Spirits, Earth from a girl who picked it up from Badgermoles and Fire from the Dragons) so technically, he deserves some kudos just as much as Korra does... plus, there'd be no Korra if there was no Aang, as the order of the avatar spirits would be skewered.
