Description wont go into much detail about how i got this comp..but the trail is up above the trees in the upper right! despite the calm conditions, could feel the power of the water flowing down through the gorge. can see this just above the main drop where the tree branches are blowing in the wind.

172' ranger falls
carbon river region of mt rainier, WA

This is a great Fall, and yes I think you should go into more detail on how you got over there...cause I didn't see that trail. And you not kidding about the power of the falls.

well technically the trail you saw is all there is..

from the lookout point, theres that log on the left with a little foot path to the base of the main drop..from there its mainly clinging to the side and making it down to the bottom and rock hopping across the creek. getting down isnt too bad..its the getting back up that was troublesome!
you make it out to Chenuis falls while you were out there?

NO, I'll have to look that one up. I have a really hard time thinking to get off the trail, not to mention my wife gets all kinds of nervous when I do.

Chenuis is just another half mile past the trail to Ranger, unique fall with a gorgeous pool at the base
definitely understand having others worry and become nervous, 99% of the time i travel alone to avoid that situation..plus dont trust others to do the things i do!
as far as going off the trail though..do mind the fragile lands and use rocks and dead trees as much as possible.

OH CR@P, lol I just looked it up it was right there.

I have to say it wasn't one of my fav hikes but I had a 50lb pack on at the time or at least the road up to the green lake trail wasn't much fun too flat for me but I'd think about doing it again with my Bicycle..

yeah, too flat and too wide! ..that road is not fun at all even though the surrounding forest is quite a site. will definitely be bringing the bicycle on the next trip out, whenever that will be..still many more areas to explore

I will keep that in mind. If I do head up to Rainer hopefully you won't mind if I ask you which spots to hit in the park.

Your welcome Addam, anytime

...no problem!

...i actually got ledged for a moment at sweet creek, when i got down into a place i couldn't get up...i yelled for mike for a while, but, the sound of the water was too loud...i eventually used my walking stick to do the trick...another good lesson..making sure you gotta a way out of that great spot!!
