Happy New Year! I had hoped to complete this before the holidays, but I ended up putting it on hold to make my Christmas card. It started as an experiment with colored pencils and watercolor, but I kinda liked the direction so I decided to finish it as a full illustration. The paper texture was really harsh on my scan, so I added a soft focus in Photoshop, as well as some color correction.close ups: [link]

The details in this are amazing. I love your use of color and your borders too. I've always wanted to do borders on some of my paintings but felt a little intimidated by that whole tricky symmetry thing... maybe you've inspired me to try it again someday.

I must say, this must be one of the best works of art I've ever seen. And I don't mean that lightly. To think this was all done by hand and not on a computer like a lot of stuff is done nowadays is awesome. I adore the frame, the 'hat' and everything else. Nice job.
