Very nice photo.Β Β

And for those interested, the SKS is not a very good gun, their accuracy is horrible and the quality is not great. They used to be cheap (I bought one for about $100 a few years back) they fire the same round as the AK, but the AK is a far superior weapon and worth the extra money. If you want a more accurate rifle you'd be better off with a Mosin-Nagant, far better quality and accuracy.Β

I would have to disagree with on that. The SKS is more accurate (inherently so due to the longer sight radius) than the AK and better made. Both are very reliable and the detachable magazine on the AK coupled with full auto and increased magazine size made it an easy choice to replace the SKS.

What variant did you have?

Russian SKS, Chinese AK, the AK was 4 times the price and 4 times better. Thats my personal experience.

Seeing as to how the SKS is capable of hitting targets out to 400+ meters. Id say that its the shooter who isnt very accurate not the rifle.

I'd love to get an SKS someday, shame they're much more expensive these days, up around the 500 dollar range, I heard they used to be around 80 bucks a piece when they first entered the US.

I remember when Yugoslavian SKS` were only 100 bucks. Now they are over 400!

This is in my room.

I have no ammo for it, but I love the gun to death. It's so beautiful, and after seeing plenty of reviews, it's a powerful and popular gun.

When the apocalypse hits, I hope I have some ammo, because this gun will be at my side.

I also have a Soviet SKS in my room too! Mine's a TulaΒ made in 1951. I love my SKS to death too lol. I simply love how beautiful it looks and how fun it is to shoot with it, haven't been to the gun range in over a year but still, I love my SKS. I picked mine up for about 300$, sadly mine doesn't have the bayonet but I can easily get one. Love to see a fellow SKS lover too xDΒ

Cool photo. These assault rifles were originally used best in urban warfare during the Nazi invasion of Stalingrad. They function through water, mud, snow and can be easily taken apart for cleaning and put together again even with untrained military hands.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PLutonius In reply to K4nK4n [2015-06-23 21:20:37 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately no. The SKS was post war and not necessarily regarded as an assault rifle. The SKS was a little more finicky and less reliable than the legendary AK but still Β a good rifle.

Actually the 1996 ban allowed the SKS to be imported as long as the Bayonet was removed. in 2004 the ban was lifted. President Obama Signed an EO stopping Importation or repatriating rifles last year, and it took effect October 2013. Β

It was because the SKS was easy to convert to a High Capacity Magazine...Β
So they made a 922r section that 10 parts must be US made.Β
Title 18 Chapter 44 Section 922(r) of the United States Code, defined further by Title 27 Part 478.39 of the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR), ambiguously restricts semiautomatic rifles and shotguns to no more 10 imported parts from a list of 20 parts

Perhaps the SKS in general but not the Russian variety. There was a list of approved firearms allowed to be imported from the Russian Federation. Its not a semi-auto? I really don`t know. The ATF and our wonderful government made the list of acceptable importable weapons from the Russian Federation. As with all elements of government, it makes very little sense.

They have become so expensive now, over a $1000 now, this SKS will be exempt from the 2013 assault weapons ban is it passes, so it will still be available at least, though its too expensive at the moment to get.

A local gun shop here in Canada gets these by the crate. They go for around $180 for the Chinese SKS and closer to $250 for a Russian one. They made so many back in the day that the there brand new too. What I mean is, never used still covered in oil and wrapped up from 50 years ago. My brother had to bake his stock in an oven to get all the oil out all at one because it will seep out forever if you don't. Anyway, it's a great gun.

I some some today, prices between $399-800, they are rare here, I was in a gun show today, and most of the booths were all about the ARs tables and tables of AR 15s and AKs, all priced between $1000-3500, AR barreled uppers for $700 and mags, only saw a few SKSs here and there
