Description I am getting back into watercolours again. It is really one of my favourite mediums and back in the day I was pretty decent again. I made this as a practice. What do you think of this piece? I really love Art Nouveau so you may see more like this.

This painting features the protagonist from my comic, "Be My Doll". Her name is Satomi.

I love the way you painted the tears. They look so real as subtle.

Hello, good day, I'm from ProjectComment

Returning back to watercolors- I have to say your comeback is well done. The colors here look rather smooth, especially the hair and the sky. It’s almost as if it’s done by pencil, which means you have a great sense of technique when it comes to filling in colors. The speckled parts on the dress look rather nice, and I like how there are shades of pink/red scattered throughout their dress.

The flow/movement of the hair looks rather well done, and I like how it leads the viewer’s eye down from their face all the way to the bottom where the dress is at- and its details.

The one thing that could use some work is the purple flower on top of the character’s head. The purple more so though- I wonder if it’s because you’re getting back to watercolor, or the ink in that area bled a bit. If it’s due to bleeding, try using masking around the flower to help you out a bit- I know they sell at art stores, and it shouldn’t damage the paper. The rose itself looks a bit flat- that could be due to the stem making it look like that. Sometimes a simple rose on its side is the way to go.

The signature placement is rather nice, and I like how you have a watermark placed on the drawing- away from the main part of the picture. The tears are probably the best thing in this picture- they look rather well done (and by well-done I mean life like almost). The background this character on is rather well done, and it helps that it contrasts from the character.

Final note- the skin tone on this character is rather warm and smooth- making it look like flesh itself. You did a fine job on this, especially with getting back to water coloring.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I am glad you enjoyed my art!

I know what you mean about the black lily. It does rather bother me. I may have to check out the masking one day.

Thanks again! I really appreciate this thoughtful comment

Good work on this piece! You've done a really good job with using water colors here. The colors themselves are quite vibrant and filled with energy and life. The purple shading on the skin adds an extra does of warmth and life to the doll, whilst the orange hair really makes her stand out. Personally, I can't really find anything wrong with picture. For what it is, it's a really nicely done piece.

If I had to nitpick, there would be two things that I would suggest to keep an eye out for. The first would be the hands. Her hands are a little small.I do get some dolls have particularly small hands, but that's mostly if they're babies, since their heads are usually larger. However, this doll looks a bit like an adult, so I would suggest the hands to be bigger a bit.

The second would be the missing ears on the doll. Around the side, you'd usually expect ears to be found there. However, if that was something done intentionally, then I suppose it can be glossed over.

Regardless, good job here!

Thanks so much for your feedback!

I see what you mean about the anatomy. I actually did a sketch that was more proportionate but since I wanted the painting to be bigger I transferred it using the grid technique. But I am honestly not good with this technique at all and ended up redrawing some parts of it which may have lead to the discrepancy. I really need to find a better way to transfer sketches to bigger canvases without disrupting the original drawing but I digress.

Thanks again for your feedback! It means so much to me!

Thanks for your feedback! I don't normally do soft and pretty so I am glad you liked it.
