Haha the bird is supposed to be a paper cutout stuck to the window

Thank you! I am actually very glad that I set out to paint them, as this is the kind of art I want to do (and the kind of messages I want to convey) right now.

Hi I am commenting on behalf of Β  I'd like to start out by saying I know nothing about watercolor painting but I was so impressed with this painting and really fell in love with it that I just wanted to comment. Your style is so subtle and really eye catching.

I just want to start out by saying that this is really beautiful.Β  The main focal point is the scientistΒ  gazing out the window, daydreaming . With her back to the room looking outside we see what she sees and dream right along with her. The lab seems to be an after thought to her although your attention to detail is amazing. The room is filled with the baubles and trinkets of any lab but these are not the most important things in the painting.Β  These things just set the scene for what she does. They help tell the story.

The cool colors you incorporated really give the an impression of isolation. She is where she needs to be but her focus is definitely elsewhere. Β  I'm not sure when you painted this but it could most assuredly be a statement on the world we live in today.Β  The scientist looks longingly outside dreaming to be anywhere but at work but she knows she has a job to do and will settle for a daydream while alone in her lab.Β  I've looked at your other two paintings (each magnificent) from the series and each character looks so deep in thought as if they are completely lost in the moment as well. You could have had her sitting in her chair but I think by standing and looking outside it adds to her anxiousness to be out in the real world. The composition is wonderful as well with the scientist off to the back right leaving all that empty area in her lab.Β  You seem to have created what on first appearance would be a lonely, isolated woman left to her thoughts and daydreaming of other things.

However, I recently heard someone say that during our present crisis to remember to look outside at the birds, listen to them sing and recall that life does still go on.Β  It would seem that the person in the painting is doing that. Maybe this is what you mean by the title, "Annunciation".Β  A revelation of sorts. Maybe the painting is not solely about loneliness and isolation but about hope.Β  The bird is a sign of that hope.Β

Lastly, it is very difficult to offer a critique of someone, anyone, who is so gifted.Β  Your work appears technically perfect (as I said earlier I'm no expert on water colors) but even if it weren't there seems to be a spirituality to your paintings. There's more than meets the eye. Any artist worth their salt who can getΒ  someone to look at there work and tell a story and make the viewer think about what they are looking at is a master as far as I'm concerned and you have earned the title in my estimation.Β  I envy your abilities.Β  You have another watcher.Β  Have a great day and please stay safe.

Thanks a lot for your thoughtful comment and the watch!

Actually, it never occurred to me that someone might see her as looking out of the window. My thought was to depict her looking on the screen and to make her very comfortable in the environment: she has not turned the lights on, she is leaning on a chair and does not care how it looks. "Annunciation" in the title was supposed to be ironic: when I witnessed this scene, she was working on a very exciting project on which, as she learned a month later, she was outcompeted by another lab. And the bird brining 'good' news is a paper cutout stuck to the window. This is how it often is in science.Β

Take care!

Wow I missed that completely. Just goes to show you how we all see things differently. Doesn’t take away from the fact that your work is still unbelievable. You have great talent. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your art.

It is really amazing how the same image can evoke different stories in different people.

Thank you! It is my curse to use too much of cool reds and warm blues so that everything is evenly purple
