You don't actually need photoshop exclusively to put a texture over your artwork.
You can gain the same effect on Paint Tool Sai by pasting the desired texture on a separate layer over the art, clipping it, and then setting it to 'overlay.'
This is a really nice trick, though, and it can be helpful to a lot of different artists!

I LOVE all of your stuff. It's so incredible and beautiful, but somehow so unique in it's style. I can't wait to get some time off from college to practice some of these (I really need to practice SAI).

You need to be EXTREMELY careful with textures, they can really ruin a picture. Plus you can also do this in SAI too.
Overlay is going to make the darker colours darker and the lighter colours lighter and its going to screw up your values if the opacity is too high or the picture doesn't suit a texture

you're right. when the shot or drawing is good enough, i don't like to use textures, would be too much.
something subtle like "soft light" in the layer-options is mostly all it needs, if you're going to use some.

Yep, also try different layer types, multiply, screen, soft light, they can all have very cool effects
Oh and thankyou! hahah glad you like that silly thing C:

I don't think using textures that way would make your picture more professional... I even wonder if it actually looks good on the overall picture to kill the painting with such a strong texture

i think textures are a difficult choice for drawings, eyes and such. better for photography or photomanipulation, at least for me. but it's cool to see, what's possible.

Textures are good for backgrounds and clothes, some artists use paper textures for their characters but is really soft. @_@
