My Thoughts on AI:

I never much got intot he AI discource because, at the time, it didn't really phase me. But then places like dA and other art platforms began to utilize it and actively steal from artists to feed into their AI generators.

I'll admit, at first, I wasn't really for or against AI, because at the time, I thought it could be a very useful tool. In my mind, I thought, hey, this could be used to help artists get a more visually accurate idea of what they want! Okay, an artist wants to draw this really nice, fantasy-esque landscape, but are not sure where to start of how to go about it, so feed the concept into an AI and get some ideas. Great, now you can draw it youself with these idea references.

I hadn't entirely considered just WHERE AI would get its art though. In my head, I thought it would compare art posted online to use as a reference; not outright lift the art and badly alter and merge it with other similar art like ArtBreeder on crack. I'm not an expert in AI after all, so I guess my assumption was idealistic. When I think "AI", I always think of something that is capable of learning and intaking data to creat eits own original output. Apparently this is not correct for AIs "creating" art.

I still think it could be a great tool - if it becomes regulated and used as a means of creating references and used only as a tool for artists. I will NEVER support AI as a means of taking over jobs in the art industries; this includes writing and web design and other niche areas that people are now losing work in because a machine can apparently do "better" (which is inherently false; they can work faster maybe, but the quality that come sout is often garbage).

If AI art ever becomes a useful tool and aid for artists, even as a teaching tool, then I'd be in full support of it! But while this concept may soon revolutionary and amazing, it is not what we need or want. It's unregulated, unmonitored, and it is avticely stealing art from hardworking people who never thought they'd have to fight for copyrights against a free-roaming data Hoover that can't discriminate.

I'm honestly hoping this goe slike NFTs did: there in one stupid burst, gone int he next moment. But I'm not holding my breath.

To those who have had their art lifted by AI, I am so, so sorry that this is happening; especially for those who create art as a living, and even those who are just trying to share their skills and ideas with the world, but have had their already tentative confidence dashed. I'm sorry to those who have outright lost jobs because of this, and to those who lost opportunities. I'm sorry for those who just do not feel safe posting their art anymore because it's just not safe anymore.

We'll get through this though. I know we will.
