OHH I shall look at people in your style for awhile and see how long that will last

I hope this means a good thing. I have found lately that my style of drawing people has been changing.

The drawing that you made of her, reminds me of Coraline. Don't you think? Well, I like it.

McKean has been an influence on my work for awhile. There are characteristics in his work that appeal to me and some of these characteristics we share were evident in my early work, like the way I drew the eyes, mouths and the shapes I used to make people.
I'm glad you like it. Thank you!!!

I really like the shading around the eyes and the somewhat sketchy framing on top. They both provide a an elegant and ad hoc quality to the picture that I find enjoyable.

Often things don't go as planned with my work but I was very pleased with how the shading turned out. Sketchiness has often been an appeal for me. I am pleased you like!
Many thanks!

were those aspects unintentional and you just forced them into the picture?

Often when working I will start with a plan on a look or mood and many times the direction changes. I then "ride the wave", letting the subconscious take over, altering original plans to what seems to fit the piece. For this one in particular, I wanted the sketchy look and kept it but the lighting had changed from darker (the left side of the face would have been obscured in shadow) to a bit lighter. The hair changed about halfway through as well. It was planned to just flow down behind the figure but then changed to flowing down around her right shoulder.
No matter how much I try to "force" a component into a piece, if it doesn't belong or want to be there, then it works itself out.

thank you for that. most people here on DA don't elaborate that deeply on their process to me when talking about their work. This comment really made me go back and take a second, harder look at it, which I think makes me appreciate it more.
Maybe "Looking Right" might be a more intriguing name for this piece. After all, to the viewer, it is to the right, and there are additional meanings to the term "right" as well. Looking correct or confident(or dare I say defiant) in her stance, posture and presentation. A sort of assertion of person and presence?
Meh, or maybe that is just the gin talking.
Speaking of tipsy observations, the construction on the center bottom on her bosom... is that meant to be a hand? Because the more I look at it, it looks like the decapitated head of a goose. Am I crazy in seeing that?

Not meant to be a hand or a goose head there but I see it. A result of random brushstrokes and mark making. I think it great when stuff like that shows itself.
