They stated before that they won't do this fight since the main reason people it's a thing is because the two character look similar. Beyond that they have little in common, and in fact Mewtwo's design is also influenced by Giygas from the original Mother game.

Some elements of the design were used for Mewtwo, but from the original Mother game. Look here www.google.com/search?q=giygas⦠: and see for yourself. Back then Giygas was a creature of flesh and blood, not all power incomprehensible force. He changed so much for Mother 2, what we know outside of Japan as Earthbound, that he is essentially a different character all together.

Mother 2 is an oddball sequel all things considered. Outside of the PSI abilities and the appearance of Giygas is doesn't really have a lot to connect with the original, which was fairly story heavy for a NES game. And Giygas in the original was a pyschic alien who was raised by humans, but when he got back to his people he learned that humans were started to use their psychic powers and he was sent to quell humanity before they could become a threat.
Giygas being a villain was actually a twist in that game. You spend most of it looking for a song while there is all this weird stuff going on including some robots attacking. At the final area you learn that this character you only heard some details about from the hero's family is the villain behind everything.
Similar to Earthbound, you can't beat Giygas like a normal enemy and the game says the forms of his attacks are indescribable. You beat by using the song you were gathering over the course of the game which turned out to be a lullaby Giygas heard as a child. Hearing it reminds him too much of his connection Earth and drives him to leave, but he swears to return. And some point inbetween games he turned into the completely insane almighty idiot he is more well known as.
