Description It's a Pegasus galaxy spacegate floating in... space. I forgot all about the power nodes, but it's hardly the end of the world.

I found an unused moleskine pocket watercolour sketchbook at a flea market last autumn and decided to pick it up after hearing so much about it, both good and bad. I only managed to start using it a few weeks ago, mostly doing some quick sketches about anything and everything, but nothing very detailed. Then, spurred by my chats with HyperCaz   about our never-ending love for SG-1 and SGA, I found myself rewatching some SGA episodes. Again. I've been doing small nebula and galaxy watercolours this week and ended up drawing a stargate in said little sketchbook. Then I looked up some close-ups of the gate for detail.  Next thing I knew, I had decided I wanted to try painting the event horizon. After that, I wanted planets. Before long, I had spent my entire evening on this.

Woow this is beautiful.
The detail in the Stargate is sick, and all those stars! Well done.

Thank you once again, Lmih! It was fun to study the detail of the gate to approximate it. Some of the stars faded after they dried, so I went in with more paint and a gelly roll to make them pop more, as I usually do. Totally worth it. It might be easier to get a bottle of white ink though.

I wanna try doing Stargate fan art, but my watercolours don't come out even half as vibrant as yours! More practicing required.

Oh, I'd love to see what you come up with if you end up experimenting with stargate/space painting. I think a lot of the vibrancy can be attributed to finally getting very good quality, pigment rich pans. I used to use super cheap pans and tubes, but you had to do so many layers with those, and it was easier to just use a ridiculous amount of colour from the tube to get vibrant colour. Especially the darks in space pics were very difficult to achieve. Now, I'm no expert and a lot of people do gorgeous stuff with what are seen as lesser quality paints, but it's certainly got easier after the switch. Also, they look a more vibrant on screen than in real life.

Thank you! I'm afraid most of them won't be quite as detailed as this one, and more in the area of "oh, look at that tree, I shall draw it in three minutes and then rush home".

It's really great, especially the colours! And the photograph too. Nice!

edit: Damn, someone has already written the exact same, but I haven't read it before. It was just what came first to my mind

Thank you! I'm glad you think so. My scanner's not been cooperating lately, but the shape of the sketchbook lends itself nicely to photography, so I just went along with it.

I think the photograph makes it even nicer than it would be with a scanner, so good choice!

It does add a bit of character to it, and the wood looks interesting next to a picture of space.

Yeah, the wood gives it a nice touch, I like that background too for my photographs

It's so pretty!! Blue and green always work so well together but this an all new level of awesome. Also, the photo of the artwork itself is very well done.

I'm so happy you like it! The blue and teal of the gate works so well with green, it was an obvious choice, as fun as other colour combos could have been. I had no decent surface to photograph it on, so I laid it out on top of the backs of two old cutting boards for that cool rustic look, hah.
