Description This Moai named Huri Ote Hari is located at the entrance of the site Ahu Tongariki, on Easter Island or Rapa Nui in Chile. It has been on a voyage to Belgium in 1935, went to Japan in 1990 for restauration and came back to its original site in 1992. Every Moai is made after an important member of the clan, usually a clan chief, having a lot of knowledge and strength called "mana". The person would be burried underneath his Moai representation, giving it the "mana". Almost all Moai's are placed with their faces toward the village, symbolizing the ancients looking after the descendants and giving them the strength of the deceased. The construction of Moai's began in the 9th century and ended in the 17th century when the Moai adoration was replaced by the deity Make Make, the god of fertility.

Wonderful framing of this Moai on Easter Island. The horizontal composition subtly compliment it's tall stance. Huri Ote Hari stands watch gazing out to the sea. Love the wonderful morning light that illuminates the scenery, showing off all the wonderful details on the Moai as well as the lovely rich hues of the stunning landscape behind. Fantastic work!

Thank you a lot for your positive words Bernie! I also thought this one was more special from the Easter Island... But it wasn't received like that i think... When going a second time there, you can start take photographs from other point of views

is that the excavated one? with the body.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

slecocqphotography In reply to zoomzoom [2015-12-04 04:45:55 +0000 UTC]

No it isn't... The ones they partially excavated was to find out how deep under the ground some big Moai's were... But after that they filled the wholes again... This one is rather small compared to the biggest and heaviest ones. These dug out ones can be found in Ranu Raraku

The first time i went in 2013 yes, well, i wanted to see it, and take photographs But last month i went with a group of belgian tourists there, and the whole of chile as guide...

zoomzoom In reply to slecocqphotography [2015-12-07 21:55:57 +0000 UTC]

so its part of Chile? When do you think the best time of the year to come and is it ok for a Family vacation? Do you think its an issue with 1 year old kids?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

slecocqphotography In reply to zoomzoom [2015-12-07 23:12:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes indeed, a part of Chile, but it's 5 hours 30 flying over the Pacific to get there... Truly in the middle of nowhere The closest inhabited place are the Pitcairn islands, slightly more than 2000km away...

Apart from the long flying hours (luckily there is valium), there is no problem going there with children Most hotels are located in Hanga Roa, where almost everything can be found. So everything is close. From north to south the island is 15 km and east to west about 25. So for distances, all is close as well.
