Incest
Royalty (Lies/Betrayal)

This is the first part of a 3 part project for my Advanced Illustration class. We had to do 3 pages from a fairy tale. I chose to do King Arthur because not many people chose adult fairy tales. The art is meant to mimic stained glass, and the quote is from a passage about Sir Lancelot and Lady Gwendolyn's affair. It takes many motifs from illustrations from that period, being: the frame, outer detail flowers/vines/etc, gold (they used a lot of gold leaf), and "title card." The three red stripes are often Sir Lancelot's sigil, the rose symbolizes the love the two shared (vs Arthur and Morgan le Fay's pure lust), the upside-down cross symbolizes the sinfulness of their relationship, and the lioness Lady Gwendolyn, since King Arthur's sigil is often a lion. The writings only describe Lady Gwendolyn as beautiful with dark hair and Sir Lancerlot as strong, so I took free reign with their designs, making Lady Gwendolyn Greek and Sir Lancelot African.
