Thank you very much. I have just bought the James Gurney 'Color of Light' (superb reading) and like you said Gamut Masking is so important for picking good colors.
I was struggling with how to apply the Gamut Mask. This really helped.
I applied your download to PS used the Edit/Free Transform tools to scale and rotate and Bingo. Thanks again.

Thanks a ton for the gamut mask, it'd have taken me ages to make one on my own! Its been roughly about a month since I got the book, and after I went through most of the chapters in it, the first thing in my mind was, "I absolutely need to figure out a way to make it in PS"!

To put it simply, if you've looked at a good painting, it doesn't use every single color of the color wheel. And in color theory, you can use a very unsaturated color but make it look saturated nonetheless. Gamut mapping allows you to limit your colors so you can master them in this sense.

This is a psd file so you have to open it in photoshop. It gives you a color wheel with masks that you can turn on and off. The point is to use colors within the geometrical shape(s) with the color picker. Color is probably one of the hardest subject in the fundamentals of art, so don't worry if you don't get it right very soon. Just remember to experiment and look at life or master paintings. And don't forget that it should be something fun and not a tedious task.
