Bonnie couldn't believe that any of this was real. This had to be some kind of strange nightmare, right? Nothing felt like a dream; she had been wide awake as she suddenly found herself bound and gagged in this cast. She ran her fingers over the rough fiberglass covering her palms, and again strained to find some movement in her upper body. Possible or not, this was happening -- she was really in this cast now.

She went over the events of the last few hours, desperate to find some hint of how to get herself out of this situation, and she was devastated as she thought through everything that had happened. Between the x-rays showing injuries she didn't have, and everyone else's memory of an accident that didn't happen, it seemed like the entire world had been altered to keep her in this horrible cast.

Bonnie felt numb as she and Olivia were taken home in a hospital shuttle -- she stared straight ahead at the back of the seat in front of her, not even trying to turn at the waist to look out of the window. The driver guided Bonnie and Olivia back inside Bonnie's house, and said that a live-in aide would arrive shortly. The driver asked Bonnie and Olivia if they would be okay for half an hour or so, and Olivia mmmph'd an affirmative.

After the driver left, Bonnie stood motionless for several seconds, staring into space as she contemplated what what it would be like to wear her cast for months. Olivia walked over, stood in front of Bonnie, and gave her a sad fearful look -- at seeing Olivia's enormous red cast, Bonnie resolved to take back control of her life. She walked upstairs to her home office, sat down at her computer, then grunted in frustration as she realized she would have to stand up and bend at the waist to use the keyboard. Olivia followed her and looked over Bonnie's shoulder as Bonnie slowly, clumsily searched the internet for instructions on cast removal. Olivia watched as Bonnie used her phone to order an oscillating saw from a nearby hardware store, and paid extra for immediate delivery.

Bonnie realized she would need Olivia's help to get out of her cast, and opened the text messaging app on her phone. She gestured for Olivia to get her own phone as she typed a message -- Olivia took the hint and walked downstairs to her phone.

"I still have no idea why I'm in this thing, but I'm getting out of it and I'm going to need you to cut this off me with the saw I'm going to buy"

Bonnie waited for Olivia's response, but heard Olivia walking back up the steps, holding her phone between two fingers of her right hand. Olivia set her phone down on a table close to Bonnie, and looked at Bonnie with a fearful and apologetic expression. After a few seconds, Olivia unlocked her phone and typed a reply.

"I'm sorry 😭"

Bonnie was surprised at the content of Olivia's message.

"For what?"

"I made a wish that u knew what it's like to be stuck like this, and it came true"

Bonnie was shocked at Olivia's admission, and mmmph'd in anger while glaring at her friend. Olivia clumsily typed another message, "I didn't know it could come true, I didn't mean for you to actually be stuck like this"

Bonnie calmed down, realizing that neither of them could have possibly predicted this, and messaged Olivia again, "It's ok, just help me get out of this once the saw gets here"

Bonnie tried to ask the delivery driver for help opening and using the saw, but he apologized and said that he needed to continue his route. Olivia and Bonnie found it difficult and frustrating to open the packaging and assemble the saw, but eventually managed to do so, and failed in their first attempts to use it -- Olivia couldn't keep a solid grip on it, and the angle of her arms and hands made it difficult to get the saw blade to where it would be useful.

After several attempts, the two women moved to the second floor of Bonnie's house. Bonnie lay on her back and braced herself against the glass railing, Olivia knelt down, pressed herself against the door frame, and managed to get the saw between her knee and Bonnie's shoulder. Olivia turned the saw on and pressed with her knee as hard as she could -- Bonnie likewise used her knee and foot to press against the saw. After a few seconds, Bonnie eagerly looked up at Olivia, and saw a shocked expression on her friend's face. Olivia dropped the saw, turned it off, and looked like she was on the verge of tears.

😰 "hmm-mmm ..."

😨 "MMMMPH!?"
