me: i wanna draw one of those outfit layer breakdowns
my brain: pick your most heavily armoured OC and spend 3 days researching medieval armour for historical accuracy
woopssssss!! this took a lot of work!! it's mostly based on 14th century european armour but i won’t claim it’s perfectly accurate for any time period, it’s still fantasy armour so i took liberties
i drew Faldrid in armour before almost a year ago (sumenya.deviantart.com/art/Fal… ) but ... yikes! i hate that drawing. and the armour was all wrong and didn't make much sense.

Really nice work. The various pieces seem to come from different periods but as you wrote, it's fantasy and not a history lesson. Is that Ilmaters symbol I spot on the tabard?
