Description After reading Osamu Tezuka's Buddha, I have become very interested in the Buddha. His life, his philosophy and his teachings interest me and he was a very great man, who changed the world for the better. Born in Lumbini, India (now present day Nepal) of the Kingdom of Kapilavatsu of somewhere between 563-480 BC. Originally named  Siddhārtha Gautama, He was prophecied to be a great king or great holy man. Sheltered for most of his life and married to his cousin and lived a very incredible life, Siddhartha knew there was more to life. So one day he sneaked out of the castle and witness the pain and suffering that was around him. Trying to find the source of suffering, Siddhartha left his home and went on his own spiritual journey. Fasting and meditating, he one day meditated under a pipala tree until he became enlighted, thus becoming the Buddha. The Buddha taught the four major truths.
  • The truth of suffering (dukkha)
  • The truth of the cause of suffering (samudaya)
  • The truth of the end of suffering (nirhodha)
  • The truth of the path that frees us from suffering (magga)
  • He also to lead a moral life, to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and to develop wisdom and understanding , to treat others with respect, karma and one’s journey to enlightenment and peace. He had many disciples and even his own version of Judas, Devadatta. (though to be fair Devadatta was born before Judas).  After 40 years of teaching his philosophy to millions, the Buddha finally was on his last legs. After eating his last meal of a mushroom or pork (It varies) the Buddha started to suffer from food poisoning. At age 80 in the year 480 BC-400 BC The Buddha would die peacefully, finally at rest.
