Description Another practice image for me.

This particular picture is of a member of the Kroot Carnivore Squad, which is for the Warhammer 40,000 game. The reference art was by Karl Kopinski, and I liked how the shadows worked so much that I decided to give it a try myself. Need...more...work...on....musculature! Umm... lotsa li'l errors in here, namely the one arm looking particularly larger than the other, more than can be explained away with perspective, and bad toenails.

What I need to get is a fitness magazine, to work on drawing realistic muscles. Yeah, that'd be good.

HOLY ''''' I can feel the Kroot-Power 'eating a half-digested human torso'. Now GW have to change their biggest weakness against tanks....

Glad you enjoyed the kroot goodness! Though I do need to say that this was completely done from reference ages ago, so it has nothing to do with my own artistic skill and everything to do with a good reference.

This is awesome I like the fact that someone can draw a Kroot and make it look like the kroot this looks like what you'd see in the books or something. So do you collect the Kroot?

Thanks - it was a practice drawing. The reference art was by Karl Kopinski, and I liked how the shadows worked so much that I decided to give it a try myself.

I don't actively collect Warhammer stuff - not enough time/money

The art, at least! I found myself in a gaming store with my sketchbook, and a bit of time on my hands, so I drew some pictures from references there. I really liked this one :3 so I had to give him a try!

Good luck finding people to game with in --- was it Africa? I know I'm horribly rusty at the games I used to play (Magic the Gathering, etc). I'd be thoroughly mauled by any and all who came against me. Still, it doesn't help that the majority of the cards I have I got free from people because A) I liked the art on them, and B) the cards were useless in game.

As of late, I've been working more to try to get my pictures to have a feeling of motion... the reference for this picture was really inspiring that way, so I had to experiment with it

That is sweet. I like the action it looks like hes running but hes missing a leg? i think. But unlike what you think the arms look fine to me, and thats a great idea to get a fitness magazine

Theriona In reply to Awesome-Youth [2004-08-31 03:41:58 +0000 UTC]

The leg was in shadow, and perspective made it so you could only see the upper thigh and a li'l foot from it At least that was my goal. *cough*

*still needs that fitness magazine ><*

Well when i draw muscles i usually just use my own anacondas as a model. It relly is effective

This is a great drawing... I'm staring at the arms and I'm really not seeing a huge problem. They look like they're in perspective and the right arm should be thicker than the left because of how the body is turned and the arm and shoulder connect to the back... the thing I noticed was off was the leg in shadow. It should be smaller to match the perspective. You based this on a reference of someone elses drawing, right? I don't think you should worry too much about getting it exactly like how the other artist did. You did a great job with the shadows btw. ^^

Thanks, I wanted to spend some time working on dramatic lighting. Most of my pics aren't heavily in shadow like this, so I decided to take a leap and give it a shot (although drawing from ref is hardly "taking a leap"... lol there isn't much creativity going on Still, I'm glad I drew this one, because I realized how much fun I have doing dark monsters >^.^<

fun stuff, drawing evil critters XD

ooh this is especially cool ^.^

and besides the arm on the right being bigger..everything looks alright to me.

and muscles? bwa...man muscles are hard...and overly muscular men are kinda gross >.<

guys that are in-between tend to be hot...bwahaha ^.^

At least, when they aren't doing the whole rape-and-pilliage thing to small towns and villages.

>_>

They sure are fun to draw, though!

Whoooooooa. I saw this and thought 'Frazetta', so obviously you succeeded. Erm. Yes. Cross hatching, shading and that thing where you leave parts blank and end up with lighting and such. And then the part where I babble and withdraw in awe.

Meh... more training which I can never do -.O
Well what can I say... regardless of the small anatomical/perspective-induced mistakes, the shading is what really shines through, the shading looks great on the arms and shoulders. Well.. yeah, it also looks good on the leg, can't forget to mention that, afterall Fitness magazines? Oh... I am sure those will help a lot on drawing big hulky handsome trolls and the like

Theriona In reply to Skotlex [2004-08-14 19:22:56 +0000 UTC]

Meh, I don't really like the uber-physique on guys myself ^_~ but I need to know how to draw them anyways ; ;

hulky =/= handsome (that thing was a "not equal to" sign, if you were curious XD just improvised it w/ the keys I had)

The shading was so fun and rewarding to do! I had a blast doing it
