Description A re-design of the "floater" alien from XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

I wanted it to have a more paranormal appearance, evoking 1950's retro-sci-fi.
As the XCOM series was largely inspired by the wave of paranormal enthusiasm in the '90s, it makes sense to me that all the enemy aliens should be re-imaginings of various cryptids. This one is based on the "Kelly Green Men."

This Floater evolved on a low-gravity planet with dense jungles. It would use its long arms to launch itself from branch to branch, and its legs have adapted to manipulate things.
On Earth, it would barely be able to stand, so it uses an antigravity device to move around.

This makes me fascinated as to what you might do with the other aliens in the series. Mainly for how well it's done.

This is as accurately describing them as my Squadie MEC is at sniping range with a minigun. (She's a REALLY good shot.)

It looks like a goblin with a remote drone attached to it's back.
I think I prefer the floaters in EU better.

This is quite a bit more interesting than a cyborg Muton with no legs.

This guy kinda reminds of the Spore Fiend from Goblin Commander.
I like all designs of the Floater, including this one.
Good work!

This is a billion times better than the design from the recent remake... and when i say a billion i am concerned i may be understating.

It fits well and looks good, but I can't quite shake the hardlocked concept of flesh and metal that is the traditional floater.

I like the realist approach you take on these concepts. Well done

An interesting clash of textures! The smooth synthetic bits contrast very well with the creature's flesh. The form and function of the limb arrangements are also super cool! If I might ask, are its eyes synthetic, or do they have a natural glow?

That's a pretty radical re-design there.

The recent remake has a confused art direction.
It has this action figure-y, Saturday morning cartoon look. That's not bad per se, but there's no reason given for it, and it clashes a bit with the game's creepy/horror aspects.
You'd think a game with an implied story built from alien infiltration tropes would at least try to reference the culture that popularized those tropes. The Sectoids are the only really iconic enemy in the game.

I plan to re-design most of the other aliens as well, if I have the time. If you're hip to UFO lore, you can probably guess what I have in mind for some of them.

I haven't seen all the monsters just yet, but I guess you're right. Maybe when they'll get around to making a sequel, you can help with the art design?
